kimberley wrote: if you read the spotlight, you'd know that James has been sick since sunday night. fever, increased heart rate and yesterday he started complaining of sore throat. i phoned the ped yesterday and he said it seems like a virus if he has a sore throat or ears but was a bit concerned about James saying his chest hurt. so was i but i wasn't sure if his rapid heart rate was freaking him out or if his chest really hurt. i wish i went with my gut yesterday but i didn't . today he seemed a bit better in the morning but got worse by mid afternoon. he refused fluids totally so i asked his dad to come help take him to the ped cuz i had no car.. jamie was at work and i had to wait for jacob to come home from school around 4pm. his mom came and took him to the ped who immediately sent him to the hospital. they did an ecg, it was normal. they took blood and chest x-rays and found pneumonia . he will be in hospital at least 2 days. his dad is taking the nights with him and grandparents and i will take the days. i feel so lost without my little bear home but Jade and Jacob need me here.. this is so hard. pls send p&pt his way. i want my rambunctious, sweet little boy back!

MommyToAshley replied: Poor little guy, I hope he is feeling better soon. It's so hard when our babies are sick. Give him lots of extra hugs and kisses from us.

And, don't beat yourself up. It's difficult to know when your little one is really sick or not. I always second guess myself on whether or not to take Ashley to the ped. It sounds like the docs are being thorough and he is getting good care, I'm sure he will be back to himself in no time.

It will be ok.. I know how hard it is when something like this happens. Especially when there are other kids in the home..more balls to juggle and you feel so bad for for the one in the air!

jcc64 replied: Oh Kimberly- I'm so sorry. Sounds like it was an easy diagnosis to miss. I usually associate pneumonia with prolonged severe coughing and wheezing- and something that takes some time to develop. It seems like it kind of came out of nowhere.
I can't imagine being pg, with other little ones at home, and a child in the hospital. It must feel overwhelming. I'm sure he'll bounce back quickly, though. I'll be thinking of him, and you. Don't forget to take care of yourself too.

unfortunately, one type of bacteria hits everyone differently. some get sniffles, some get a 24hr cold, some get pneumonia. there really is no way to predict or prevent this from happening. i really wish i was thinking straight because i did know that chest pain is an indication of pneumonia.. i just didn't make the connection fast enough.

i called and he is doing a little better today but definitely won't be release before tomorrow or friday. the doc wants him back to his old self before he discharges him. *sigh* i am hangin in there just having trouble sleeping. will update tonight after i see him.
