Could it be chicken pox?
luvmykids wrote: I just noticed Macie has a spattering of little bumps...but only on one arm, shoulder and that side of her back. They're in clusters, one cluster of five, three clusters of three, and then a few more spaced out on their own. It seems weird that it would only be on one side? What else could it be?
grapfruit replied: Well I know SHINGLES (Chicken Pox virus) looks like that. Funny how I know that since I'm on my last day of pills for it
Chicken pox usually has a fever and stuff like that w/it too. However, Shingles normally does too, and I've had none of that.
How is her eating?? Are the bumps itchy? I have a friend who's son's Chicken Pox presented in clumps, so I'd say yes, definatly possible!
I'd call the dr.
Sorry!!! Really not a great time to get the Pox. But if you caught it soon, they can probably be done and over w/by Christmas!!!
grapfruit replied: Acutally that's EXACTALLY how Shingles are. All on one side of the body, usually in clumps.
I'd really take her in.
luvmykids replied: I just checked her out again, head to toe....those are the only ones. Aren't chicken pox usually red? These are really small and some are blistery (like clear) and some look more like a little whitehead...nothing I see online looks like them She says they're not itchy, no fever. She didn't even know they were there until I saw them. Weird! I may run her by the school nurse and see if she can give me some direction.
eta: She had the pox vaccine when she was a baby but when I took the twins for their last shots, none of them got the boosters. I wonder if she could still get it? Or shingles instead of it?
Here are some pics, not very good but do they look like anything anyone knows of?

grapfruit replied: I hate to say it, but it still looks like it to me. I think asking the nurse is a good idea. From what my dr told me. If the virus is present in your system (which I am assuming w/the vaccine it still would be ??? ) then Shingles can present. I had a patch of red bumps, but I also had some clear looking ones too, which is why at first we were thinking Poison Ivy, which of course is absurd when I haven't been around ANYTHING or ANYONE w/Poison Ivy.
Is she stressed at school or anything??
I know that when I was her age I used to get Shingles (yes I'm a freak I know) before big tests. We used to have a test called the IOWA test (stood for something, couldn't tell you what, I think the O was Ohio). Basically it was a state wide standardized test that everyone had to take. They hyped it up so much that it freaked me out.
lovemy2 replied: I would definately take her in- it could be shingles and that is soooo not something to sit on
KUP and to Macie
luvmykids replied: She's not in school yet, I'm just thinking maybe she picked it up while we were there sometime. I'm trying to get her an appointment and of course nobody has anything today
A&A'smommy replied: looks like chicken pox to me... although I was looking at the second picture and it just seems kind of odd..
A&A'smommy replied: Hey monica does it look like that first picture? and are they kind hard and almost wart like? Alyssa had this when she was about 2 and that second picture reminds me a LOT of this. Is she itchy at all?

luvmykids replied: No, they're not wart like, more like blister/pimple. They're not all that raised either, which I couldn't remember about chicken pox. No itching, no fever, but Kylie and I do have very sore throats today
A&A'smommy replied: hmmm well I dunno i would ask a dr though cause that seems really odd
Jamison'smama replied: I know there are rashy viruses going around here. Hope you get it figured out.
Jack had chicken pox after and he had the vaccine--very light case.
holley79 replied: Did you get into the Dr's yet?
redchief replied: Definitely looks like chicken pox. I hope I'm wrong.
luvmykids replied: No, they have me "tentatively" scheduled for tomorrow at 4:45 I'm going to make some more phone calls in the morning, maybe someone will have a cancellation
luvmykids replied: We went....the dr was a tiny bit puzzled He thought the bumps do look a lot like pox but nothing else fits the bill....not red, itchy, or spreading and no fever. Said to keep an eye on it. She could have a very mild case since she had the one vaccination but not the whole series (and even those who do can still get a mild case) but he did say it definitely isn't shingles. I asked if I needed to call the mom I babysit for and he said he didn't think so and to just keep an eye on it
I called her anyway, just because of how sick Kylie has been and how crummy I've felt all day, told her I was up to it but wanted to give her fair warning and let her make the call. So I'm babysitting tomorrow
MommyToAshley replied: hmmm, that's weird, I wonder what it is. I guess it could be a mild case of chicken pox but you'd think the doc would be able to give a definite diagnosis.
Hope you all feel better.
luvmykids replied: The other culprit was a rashy virus (but she has no other symptoms) and bug bites, like something got in her jammies and bit like crazy till it got out. I think he was basing it on the fact that there just isn't anything else to go along with it
Kylie actually is a little better today, a lot less coughing. Still feverish and hoarse though, probably going to miss another day of school tomorrow
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Sorry if this was mentioned earlier, but could she be allergic to something she ate? With no fever, that's the only thing I can think of. I breakout all the time. Haven't figured out what from yet, but I am going to the dermatologist tomorrow to see if he can figure it out.
Hope you all feel better soon!
