Coming out of the closet.. - and a BIG vent!

I had a Dr. appt. this morning and it's not really even that since I have yet to be seen by a licenced Dr. I had an u/s this morning and then saw a nurse practioner and let me tell you - I did not like her at all. Here are the highlights of my appt.


(1) I'm gonna look for the heartbeat and then your dh and son can leave and I'll finish your exam. HELLO? Shouldn't it be up to me to have them leave or stay - not HER?

(2) I have a mole on my ear..she took one look at it and made it sound like it was cancerous and I HAD to go see dermatology to get it checked out.

(3) I'm still bf Taven. She told me.."well that's got to stop. how old is he now? (almost 2 1/2). OH YEAH time to give that up.

(4) How much weight did you gain with your son? (almost 60 lbs.).."oh we don't wanna go there again"

(5) I told her w/Taven, I tested positive for the T3 screening for spina bifida. She asked if I had an amnio..I told her no. She asked if I would consider it this time around, I told her no. Then she proceeds to tell me, "sometimes it's better to know ahead of time if you have a child with Down's Syndrome cause you can prepare yourselves better and a lot of marriages end in divorce because of a special needs baby"...HELLO? Did my son come out with Down's Syndrome? I had a FALSE POSITIVE...

(6) My blood pressure was high. I have complete anxiety when it comes to doctors. My bp was fine with my pg with taven. Usually the 1st one is super high but if they wait until like after the exam and give me another check, it's usually down. She proceeds to make it sound like I have some bp disorder and tells me to come back in 2 weeks to check my bp and from that visit, my dr. can decide whether to medicate me my whole pg...WTF?

K..I think those are the highlights..LOL..if you made it this far - thanks for reading..

I am currently 11 wks, 3 days. They told me my dd was 1 aug at my last appt then this one they kept saying they were going to keep my dd at 7/31/05?? Up until this appt. they never checked me at all, only took blood and urine samples so I wanted to make sure that everything was good before I told you guys!!

U/s went really well - baby measuring 10 wks, 6 days so pretty much right on..heartbeat was 175 - though the NP couldn't find it when she gave me her exam.

UGH, so sorry you had such an awful nurse. At least you know to just let it go through one ear & out the other. I hope your actual Dr. is much better!

I had the same blood pressure issues...my doctor actually wrote "white coat hypertension" in my chart to remind herself that if my pressure is high---to take it AFTER the appointment since I tend to be on the anxious side of things when it comes to pregnancy (which is also why I declined all the testing)

Good luck to you and hope you have better luck with future visits--and I hope your DH and Taven stayed for your ENTIRE exam!

That nurse sounds horrible! I think I would have been in tears! Try to make sure to NEVER see her again, and I'd report her to the doc immediately.

paradisemommy replied: awe thanks guys for all the well wishes!! i did call back to kaiser as son as i got home and made sure that i didn't have to see her my whole pg. i was told they have another NP that i could see and that i could also just opt not to see a NP at all anymore and just the dr. (VERY GOOD TO KNOW)

*keeping my fingers crossed that i like the dr. she just got off maternity leave so i'm hoping she'll be a little more understanding/sympathetic. i see her the first time next month*

FYI Dr. Sears has a book about new babies written for small kids. We started reading it around 8 mos along. It really helped K to prepare.

How exciting! You little sneak, how did you ever keep it from us??? How did you tell your DH? What does he think?


As for your appointment, I am sorry that you had to deal with that NP. How horrible! I am glad that you won't have to deal with her again, but they really should do something about her so that no one else does either!

my saving grace was mollie..i had been talking to her since i found out cause i'm still bf taven so i needed her expertise!! she's a great secret keeper!!

dh knew from the get-go..not sure if you ever read my other post..i had my yearly in nov. and had told the dr. there was a possibility that i was pg (though i was about 3 days shy of being late with my period). she tested me and told me..nope not pg but keep trying. she then proceeded to tell me as long as i was bf taven that i wouldn't get pg. i was pretty bummed but let it go. well 3 days came and went and then i was late..i waited 3 or 4 more days ( i am NEVER late) and did a hpt..then another one a couple days later..both came out positive..then called my dr. and went in and had a urine test and that one came out positive.

we were truly blessed cause that is the first month that we were actively trying!!

we're both really excited!!

It's so hard keeping a secret especially when everyone's posting about being pregnant!! I've been there Sorry for the horrible nurse you had....but I'm sure your doctor will be awesome!!

I hope you have a better experience with the doctor next month. That is just horrible how that NP treated you. I think my pg with Ethan was so good b/c of my doctor. I was so stressed the entire time, but everytime I went in, all of that stress went away. He is truly so wonderful. I wish everyone could have that experience.
