Christmas in the ER!

mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: Oh wow...We just got back from the ER! I was in the shower and DH comes running in to show me that Wil's lips were swelling! He had some type of allergic reaction to something. We think nuts, which he has always been fine with in the past....But DH was eating cereal with a mixture of nuts in it and giving Wil the raisins, also in the mix. The raisins were organice I think, but not typical Sunmaid kind. He had just bought the mix at Whole Foods in their bulk section, so I'm assuming who knows how long they had been sitting in those bins. Also, a lot of dried fruit has sulfur in them. I suspect that could be it. Anyway, they gave him some Benadryl and a steroid and we're home...two hours later.

You guys...his lips were SOOOOO BIG! bawling.gif I think the scariest part was when the pediatrician said "take him to the ER right away because the swelling could go down his throat". I have never seen DH drive so fast....the hospital is 20 minutes downtown.

Wil is sleeping now and I am throwing in the towel for a nice gourmet meal tonight. I have the ingredients, but no energy. So we're doing chinese take-out tonight and maybe I'll do the dinner tomorrow instead. snooze.gif I feel emotionally drained as I'm sure Wil does too. I'm so glad it didn't get worse. Give us some prayers that the swelling goes down. They are still a bit big and the doc said to just keep a close eye on it for the next few days.

Merry Christmas! wavey.gif

cameragirl21 replied: Thank God Wil is ok, Rae, I'm sure you're emotionally exhausted so give yourself a break, there will be other nights to cook a fancy dinner.
Happy Holidays to you as well! hug.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Wow how scary. Glad he is okay but sad.gif

We did that panic drive last year with Matt so I know how awful that was for you. Give him a big hug from us.

My2Beauties replied: ohmy.gif OMG that is scary! I would have freaked out! I am so glad he's ok and poor mommy sad.gif How scary for you and dad! Shew - crisis averted thank goodness though, I'm so glad you guys got him to the hospital ASAP!

amynicole21 replied: Yikes! That is so scary - especially since you don't know for sure what caused it. blink.gif Poor baby. The swelling should be gone in a few hours. sleep.gif

moped replied: Oh rae - that is scary - i am glad he is home resting - Poor Wil............give him a big hug

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Thanks everyone! I'm having an early glass of wine to kill my nerves (it's not even 3pm)... blush.gif I keep thinking "what if". sad.gif

Oh, btw Jen (cameragirl)...Happy late Hannukah!! thumb.gif

moped replied:
Oh I can't imagine what you are thinking - but just try to remember he is ok and the docs wouldn't have sent him home if he wasn't!!!!!!!

Mommy2BAK replied: Oh my goodness Rae, that is just terrible. I'm so glad he's alright now. Ya know that just goes to show that ANYthing can happen so quickly with our little ones, I usually don't think twice about feeding Blakely whatever we are eating, but now that you said that I will be sure to be a little more causious about it.

I hope Wil is recovering well. hug.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: Glad to hear he was okay - how scary!

MyLuvBugs replied: Oh gosh!!! How's he doing today?? Tons of prayers for ya and Wil!!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: OMG how scary! ohmy.gif I'm so glad he's ok. hug.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
He seems fine now. The swelling went down by the evening the day it happened (started at 10:30am). I'm watching him closely and will never give him nuts again. We went out to eat yesterday and asked the server to make sure to note "nut allergy" with Wil's order. I'm probably being overly cautious, but you just never know. I'm going to call the ped this morning and try to get him to see an allergy specialist ASAP. My sister who is a RD said that nut allergies typically get worse as you get older. I'm a little freaked about it! unsure.gif

Anyone see Jennifer Lopez in Monster in Law? That was what Wil looked like...big lips! bawling.gif I'm just thankful nothing worse happened. Thanks for the good thoughts.

holley79 replied: Oh man that is scary. I'm sorry that happened. Not a way to spend Christmas. Annika had an allergic reaction to rasins.
