Childrens Books - Faves

Kentuckychick wrote: Some of you may know that I'm working on my degree in child development. This semester will be my practicum working with preschool aged children in the development center at my University.

One of our projects is to come up with three different books and find a way to bring the story into the classroom for story time (through a story board, or clay characters, or other means). I have a couple ideas for stories but I know a lot of the most popular stories will be taken by other students.

So I was looking for ideas for stories.
So what are your child(ren)'s favorite books?

So far I'm considering
-Ferdinand
-The Song and Dance Man
-McElligot's Pool
-Mike Mulligan's Steam Shovel

but I would love some other ideas biggrin.gif

Jamison'smama replied: Corduroy books are good
My favorite kid's book right now is Llama Llama Red Pajama
I've Got an Elephant by Anne Ginkel is another favorite and may be fun to do something with.

moped replied: Love you Forever - RObert Munsch

My3LilMonkeys replied: We're a big Dr. Seuss family - Go Dog Go, Fox in Socks, Green Eggs and Ham.

Other favorites

The Giant Jam Sandwich
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
There are rocks in my socks said the ox to the fox

Calimama replied:
Ditto Ditto! I love that book. wub.gif

The Olivia series are good ones too - Olivia is always in trouble for something tongue.gif Sounds exactly like someone I know emlaugh.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: No More Elephants

kit_kats_mom replied: The giving tree, anything by EB white, Ramona books.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Ok, bad mom award for me, but Logan likes "Walter the Farting Dog".
I can't believe I just typed that.

Kentuckychick replied: Thanks everyone, these are some wonderful ideas and books thumb.gif

I loved so many books growing up it's just so hard to pick and I know that there are so many more today that I'm not even aware of.
I too love "I'll Love you Forever" I'm just not sure it would work for what I'm doing, but it's a terrific book that always makes me bawl!
The Lorax is another one of my favorites that I'm having trouble trying to figure out something to do with it.
I'm trying to stick to shorter books where the kids won't get bored easily. These are mostly 3 year olds. It's a pretty short circle time in this center and the rest of the 3 hours is independent choice play with a reading center available, so I don't want to choose a story that will take too long.

I'm planning on going to the library on Monday or Tuesday so keep the suggestions coming!

Or how about "Everyone Poops".............

DansMom replied: Daniel is into the following:

In the Night Kitchen, by Maurice Sendak

The Seuss collection that includes The Sneetches, The Zax, Too Many Daves and What Was I Scared of...

Frog and Toad stories.

Madeleine stories.

It seems he's never too old for Runaway bunny, Goodnight Moon and The Big Red Barn either.

Are You My Mother is a big favorite!

alice&arik replied:
We have that book!! Grandma got it for him! It is so funny! rolling_smile.gif

I thought we were the only ones that had it!

alice&arik replied: Arik has so many books, I don't really pay attention to the authors.

Leo the Lightning Bug
Clack-Clack-Moo- The Kohl's books for charity
Inside A Barn In The Country- Repeat book he can actually read himself since it has the pics of what animal comes next.

redplaydoh replied: The Gruffalo

The Gruffalo's Child

Silly Sally

The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear

How Do I Love You

Brown Bear (Eric Carle)

Don't Let the Pidgeon Drive the Bus!

Jamison'smama replied:
The Gruffalo was the favorite book of Jamison's Pre K teacher.

I LOVE the Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear.

I also like --Sometimes I Like to Curl Up in a Ball

Kentuckychick replied:
Okay, the Gruffalo looks like a really cute book!! Thanks so much for the idea, I'd never heard of that one thumb.gif

And I LOVE "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus"... but I know that is on the top list for at least three students already so I'll let one of them have it.

The great thing is I can either go to the library and check these out or go buy them myself and keep them here for my godson, Connor. My mom has so many of our old books that he loves to read but we are constantly adding to his collection for when he's here during the day. And of course now that his sister's getting bigger we can add girlie books too happy.gif

His favorite are -

- Madeline (he calls her "Mad-eh-lion)
- The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge
- Lighthouse Saves the Day
- The Monster at the End of this Book
- Miss Fiona's Stupendous Pumpkin Pies
- The House on East 88th Street (which is Lyle crocodile)
and the Otto books (Otto goes to Camp, Otto has a Birthday, etc... by Todd Parr)

I can't wait to delve into some of these new ideas you guys have given me. The projects are stumping me (I've run into a creative block) but I'll get there.

Thanks again!

Crystalina replied: Izabella like all books but Evan loves the 'If You Give A Pig A Pancake', 'If You Give A Moose A Muffin', 'If You Give A Mouse A Cookie'. He has all the stuffed animals that go along with each book.
