DO you think cheny will ever hunt again? would you?
C&K*s Mommie replied: I think he would and should continue. I have heard bits and peices of the story, but if that is what he (Cheney) enjoys by all means he should continue to do it.
If that were me, and hunting was my passion- I would continue as well.
MamaJAM replied: I saw this a few days ago. I hadn't heard about the heart attack though poor guy...I hope he's better soon.
As far as Cheney hunting again....hard to tell. It was an honest accident...though accidents are much, MUCH scarier with guns. It will probably be a while before he dares to go again. For me - you couldn't make me hunt in the first place -- so, no, I'd never go again after something like that.
BAC'sMom replied: I have been waiting for this to show up on board, this all broke here Sunday long before the national news got word. It's so very sad and I hope Mr. Whittington pulls through. Here's our local link http://www.callertimes.com/
PrairieMom replied: any one watch comedy centrals "the daily show" coverage about this last night? We were rolling on the floor laughing.
Okay, I know the situation isn't funny, but Jon Stewart cracks me up!
luvmykids replied: I feel bad for Cheney, it was an honest accident and certainly not the first of it's kind. I also feel bad for his friend, but why is it that because it was Cheney it's so ghastly?
C&K*s Mommie replied: Did not see it, what happened?? He always has me cracking up, too. And so does the Colbert guy. They are two peas in a pod!!
PrairieMom replied: http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_dai...nes/index.jhtml
Heres a link to the site. you can watch it there. Rob Corddry also did a bit as the "fire arms analyst and you can watch that too.
luvbug00 replied: That was sooo funny!!
anyway..
Just one more thing to pick on I guess..
jcc64 replied:
Imo, Cheney's done far worse than shoot a friend in the face accidentally.
amynicole21 replied: Thank you for that - made my day!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: FIRSTLY I would like to point out that he did not shoot Mr. Whittington in the face-he was "peppered" with pellets from bird shot. Not to down play the injury at all but Mr. Whittington came up behind Mr. Cheney unannounced-a big No No while hunting and while Cheney should not have fired his weapon without absolute knowledge of the whereabouts of all those present(another cardnial rule) he was following a covey of quail around his back and fired-unfortunately Mr. Whitington was in the line of spray. Secondly~ Both Mr. Cheney and Mr. Whittington are avid hunters and both well aware of the risks involved in the sport....It is a regretable ACCIDENT~ No less and assuredly NOTHING MORE!
ETS~ I was not directing my comments to anyone-I just feel this whole situation has been spun over and over in the media....hunting accidents happen but so do car accidents, work related injuries,etc...I argee with Monica what makes this SO MUCH worse just because you can involve big names?
coasterqueen replied: Well said and what sickens me the most is hearing the press ask if there are going to be reprocussions for Chaney and if he should be "fired' from being Vice President. Seriously, do we have anything better to do as Americans than this? It's just another democratic bashing IMO over something that happens to MANY other no-name Americans out there....but we aren't taking up the media to talk about them, are we? What a slap in the face IMO.
punkeemunkee'smom replied:
I just had to laugh this morning when about the 10th reporter I have heard RE-clarified that Vice-President Cheney will not be criminally charged in this matter! As thought they are doing him a favor by not charging him~He did NOT take aim and fire AT the man for goodness sake!
coasterqueen replied: Oh geesh. You know I think I should just take a break from the news and come back to it when they actually start reporting news worthy material. Did we forget about other more important issues? I think I'd be ashamed to be a reporter and wouldn't be able to acknowledge that fact in public.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I knew when I heard the story that it could not have happened to a worse possible politico, as outspoken for the NRA and other "right to bear arms" organizations, as Cheney has been,I knew the press was going to have a field day!
Insanemomof3 replied: Now I remembered why I do NOT watch the news.
DansMom replied: I second that emotion, Jeanne.
Hillbilly Housewife replied:
I agree. Just because he's "dick cheney" shouldn't mean anything. This story woudn't even have made headlines if it was some regular joe shmoe.
luvmykids replied: Thank you!
TLCDad replied: Agreed. If the democrats trying to use this in some political way is definitely going to make them look bad.... it was an accident. The best you could do is mention how dangerous guns are but that is about it. Trying to even mention some sort of criminal action is just plain wrong. Though, I do believe Cheney made a politcal mistake by not going public immediately.
There is a case for a civil suit which obviously Cheney would settle out of court. But, the man shot is a friend so I doub't that would happen.
I did see part of an interview with Cheney and he did seem obviously shaken up. I doub't he will be able to go hunting for some time, if ever.
coasterqueen replied: Your post was very well said. You know, though, it's really sad that he should have had to come out with this news, you know. You know he didn't because he knew he'd be bashed, but I'm not sure he thought the media would blow it this far out of the water.
A&A'smommy replied: I wouldn't but I wouldn't hunt anyway not actually SHOOTING anyway I feel sorry for him!!
jcc64 replied:
I have a few thought on this, Karen. I'm certain he knew EXACTLY how out of control the media would get with this story, which is undoubtedly why he chose not to go public with it. He was not the first to report the story- the owner of the ranch reported it to a local newspaper. Had that not happened, I'm not sure it ever would have come out. And that's where the real story is. He should have felt compelled to report the story immediately, regardless of the political repurcussions. He is our 2nd highest public official- he has no private life to speak of, if we are in fact operating under the rules of engagement set forth during the Clinton/Lewinsky thing. If it was important for us to know about Clinton's extramarital affairs, then for the same reason it's important to know about Cheney's reckless hunting behavior. Personally, I don't believe either thing has any relevance to my life or any other average Americans, but what's good for the goose (or quail) is good for the gander. The Republicans had a hand in creating this sort of environment as much if not more than the Democrats. And fwiw, I think the Democrats and the reporters look like a$$es for jumping on this story with such fervor, but that's the reality of Washington these days. Had it been some top Democrat, you can be sure the Republicans would have exploited it to their advantage as well. They just would have done a better job of it.
coasterqueen replied: Jeanne,
Good points. One thing I want to add is I honestly did NOT need to know about the Clinton/Lewinsky thing. NONE of my business as far as if he was having an affair with someone. FWIW, we as Americans are extremely naive if we think there isn't a TON of politicians that aren't having affairs, doing things they should not be doing etc. I've learned that from my own state politics. Unfortunately a good better part of Americans are that naive.
luvmykids replied: I think overall politics has become a complete joke. IMO you can't take any of them at their word and the bias between the parties has turned into a complete circus. For me, when it comes to politics, I just want to know who best represents my needs, beliefs, etc. and what their plans are, I truly could care less what they eat for breakfast or do on the weekend.
CantWait replied: I actually feel bad for this guy. It seems as if everyone is coming down so hard on him, and the media is eating him alive. YES it was stupid, but it was an accident, and it was a friend. Leave the poor guy alone
