Champaine on newyears?
PrairieMom wrote: I was reading a post on a pregnancy message board about if it was okay to have some champagin on Newyears. There was a Poll, and I was suprised to find that 57% of the expectant mommys on there plan to have a glass. I was wondering what y-all think? Personally, I'm not even drinkng caffine, so alcohol in any ammount is out of the question for me.
A&A'smommy replied: UM if i was pregnant I definitly would NOT drink any alcohol
CantWait replied: 0 for me either. I don't believe in it when pregnant or breastfeeding
amynicole21 replied: Yep, I had a glass last year. In Europe, pregnant women drink a glass of wine daily. My doctor even said it was ok.
aspenblue1 replied: I didn't drink while pregnant but I know people who did drink wine while pregnant.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: My midwife gave permission for a beer or two a week during the summer. I was in my 3rd trimester by then and all major organs had formed. But I didn't have any. Next time, I might.
kit_kats_mom replied: If I was really early on then no. But if I was in the second tri or further...yep, I'd have a glass. In fact, I did...It's our anniversary too and ITA with Amy, women in other countries drink in moderation and their population is still growing and healthy. I think the problem is when you do anything in excess.
Frankly, I also ate sushi throughout both pregnancies. The risks are minimal if you are eating at a reputable resteraunt. In fact, I think the risks of getting food poisoning is higher from eating out at a fast food place. Japanese women don't swear it off during pregnancy either.
Coffee...I drank that too. Again, I did it in moderation. I cut back to one cup per day from my normal 3-5 cups a day.
I honestly think that the medical community says no to lots of things because those who can not control themselves would sue if something happened. KWIM?

kimberley replied: ITA! i have had a beer here and there during pg, drank coffee, ate tuna... by those standards, i shouldn't have any kids. it is all about moderation. last week my mw told me to take gravol and a glass of wine to slow down the cx cuz i wasn't ready for baby yet. in Ireland, they used to give expecting moms guiness.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I won't mostly because I'm not a champagne fan. By this point in my pregnancy with Matt (when I didn't know I was pg.) had I consumed enough alcohol to sustain him until he turns 21 and he cam eout just fine. My dr. was also one of the ones who said to drink a glass of wine at night during the 3rd trimester...that I did do a few times and it did help me relax and I felt a lot better than when I was taking the terbutaline.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I know a lot of women who have done it, but I am against any alcohol while PG. I'm a social drinker when I'm not PG, but the thought and smell of drinking repulses me right now! I suppose that's a good thing! Maybe a glass of wine in the 3rd tri, but I'm not really craving it.
Although the risks are said to be minimal, I couldn't live with myself if I found out something was wrong with my baby...even if it wasn't due to alcohol, the thought of what I did would haunt me for life!
Kate29 replied: My family all had a champagne toast on Christmas and I must admit, I really wanted a glass!! Piggybacking on others' comments, in Europe it is much more accepted for women to drink IN MODERATION throughout pregnancy. I I really do not think a glass of wine here or there will do any damage. I will turn 30 in March and I think I might save my glass of champagne for that celebration!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Well I wouldn't but a glass in the 3rd tri probably wouldn't do any harm. Last year I was pg on new years and we had the fake champagne ~ but that's what we usually have anyways. I've only tasted the real deal once and I didn't like it... and I hate wine.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Heck yeah...sorry!! maybe my little onw will sleep longer than 20 mins...
