Cat smell question
Farelle wrote: Does anyone know a way to get cat STINK out of my carpet (and yes I am referring to pee - GROSS!) One of my cats decided to soil the carpet in the corner of our living room and it STINKS!!!! We have cleaned it and covered it with carpet deoderizer but it still smells through. I am getting the whole carpet professionally cleaned next week and I am HOPING that will help, but in the meantime I can't stand the odor.
This kitty better shape up or else............
luvmykids replied: I have a few suggestions....one is to pour straight vinegar on the spot, really soak it, so it can seep down to the pad where the odor problem is. The vingar will stink at first but the smell will go away.
Another option is to mix peroxide and water and do the same thing. Soak it, blot it, let it dry, repeat until the smell is gone. This method needs to be spot tested though to make sure it doesn't discolor your carpet.
The last is a product called Zero Odor, if you google the name you'll get their website. I've used almost every odor eliminator there is, and it is the only one that really worked for me.
Farelle replied: Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!!!!
I am going to try them all!!!! Cat "stink" is the worst smell there is!!!!!!!!!!
Calimama replied: Good luck, I hope one of those ideas works!
HuskerMom replied: It's been my experience that cat stink is impossible to get rid of. The stink will outlast the cat.
momofone replied: I think it's called natural's miracle. They sell it in the big pet stores. Works great!
gr33n3y3z replied: I hope it works for you but you will prolly have to tare up the carpet please let us know which one works if it does
Militarymom22 replied: let me know what works because my cat decided to go on strike for a day and did the same thing!!!! ewwwwwwwww
cameragirl21 replied: in my experience, vinegar always works, I don't have carpet though. I would suggest soaking the spot with vinegar...the smell of the vinegar will go away in a couple of days or so, then febreze the area. Another option would be hydrogen peroxide, that will take care of the smell and the bacteria/dirt associated with cat pee. you will have to really let it soak though. Also, when a cat pees in an atypical location it can be a sign of a urinary tract infection that will make the pee smell worse AND it will make the cat keeping peeing so you may want to take your cat to get checked out by a vet, especially if this happens again.
Crystalina replied: Hopefully you can get it out and it's not in the wood underneath.
my2monkeyboys replied: That's what I've used... works great!
Boo&BugsMom replied: This is what we used when our old cat started spraying. It was the only thing that worked really well.
holley79 replied: You ain't kidding about that. This is why I don't own cats.
A&A'smommy replied: That is also what I was going to suggest, It really is a miracle!!!
Farelle replied: Thank-you all!! I forgot about that Natures Miracle, I think I have used that in the past. And I will gladly smell vinegar all day compared to this.
The poor cat is terrorized by my other cats. He is so timid and just runs for his life when the others bother him so they do it more and more.....and I think they chased him away from the litter box and that is why he is peeing outside of it. We've had him for like almost 10 years and he has NEVER done this, NONE of my cats have. I just don't understand why they can't all get along!!! I need to sign him up for a kitty self defense class!!!
