Car seat help?
PrairieMom wrote: I need instructions for a alpha omega carseat with the cross bar thing. I want to convert it from the 5 point harness to a booster and I lost the manual. I tried scanning around online for one, and couldn't find it. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Kentuckychick replied: Link to instruction Cosco Alpha Omega manuals
Hope that helps! If you click the link it has a spot to put in the date and model so you know it's for your seat
I will warn you though... it's not considered one of the best or safest booster seats. It's really bulky and puts a lot of weight behind the seatbelt. We will be switching over to the Turbo booster (with the back) when Connor outgrows his other seat but we are also looking at the Graco Nautilus and the Safety 1st Apex which both harness up to 65 lbs and turn into MUCH safer boosters when they are outgrown.

Apex
PrairieMom replied: I found that one, but they don't have ours listed. Its older, from 2003, so maybe thats why. Acutally, its probably going to expire soon, maybe its time for a new one anyway.
holley79 replied: You may want to watch this Tara.
grandma replied: OMG - That made me bawl....how awful!
holley79 replied: Annika won't be swtiched to a booster seat any time soon.
BAC'sMom replied: Holley -what do they suggest for people who have petite children that are ready to move on to the next step? Let's use Ansley for example she's 8 but she barely weighs 40 pounds. You can't keep them in a five point till they are in Jr. High which is what it looks like we are going to have to do.
Any ideas?
jem0622 replied: First, I think you need to do what is best for you. If the child just reached the max weight for a certain configuration, then you can still keep the setup. There are restrictions on height and weight.
Second, every car is a death trap (let's be honest), and I was born in 74...you really don't want to know what they called a car seat back then. But I'm still here. Those seats are very well made. If keeping that seat means you child has a safety seat, then call the manufacturer and ask for them to send you the instructions.
You will do what's best for your circumstance and no explanations are needed.

grandma replied: Oh just wait til she goes to driver's ed......
Anthony275 replied: grandma what do you mean?
sparkys2boys replied: ok if I can type through the terars I have to say thank you for posting that. Right now Cameron who is 6 in a few weeks is only in a booster seat that does up with the reg seat belt.. not anymore. That shocked me.... I figured he was to big to be in any other seat but I dont care anymore. I will be switching him ASAP
grandma replied: Anthony, It was kinda a joke, kinda not. If you watched the video it is really heart breaking.. Holly said Annika is in her car seat and will be there for awhile. I just said how about until she goes to driver's ed, which would make her about 16...meaning she would be strapped in safely until then. Get it?
holley79 replied: We were just talking about this at a group gathering today.
One of the mother's uses the Safe guard seat. Her daughter is 6 years old. She is 4"3" and 46 pounds.
Another mother uses the Adjustable vest.
Consider something of this nature for the older kids. Looks like a pain but I just researched it and it is pretty easy to use. Ride Safer Vest System
There is also one I saw in a friend of mine's car for her older grandchild. I have a call into her for the name of it. As soon as I get that I will let you know.
I'm not a total freak out kind of mom but after sitting in on autopsies where if the child had been 5 pt harnessed in I see no reason to go to a booster for Annika. (JMO and after being in a very serious car accident I have my quirks.) (Grandma she is only 2 so we have a while till DE ) I will shop around when she out grows her convertible car seat then we will look at getting a "big girl" 5 pt harness.
