Cam is SICK - Maybe from the diaper cream.....

He has had 3 runny, green BM's today. He is running a 101.0 fever. He woke up in the middle of the night, last night, and was crying. His nose was pouring, but no BM, and no fever. But now he has both.

He ate well today at Daycare. And the teachers said he was happy as could be, and they didn't think he was sick.

I gave him some Benedryl tonight for his nose, and some Tyelonl for his temp.

So what do you think? Is it from the diaper cream, or his runny nose? Maybe another ear infection?

I will see if he's still running a fever tomorrow morning. I sure hope we both get some sleep tonight. I'm tired.

I read what you wrote, Abbie, about the diaper cream and the toxins it has. But wouldn't he be throwing up?

Nina J replied: He could just have some type of virus. Emily had a a virus once with very similar symptoms, including the BM.

I don't think it was the cream, because it probably would've made him throw up.

You said he's eaten this stuff before? Was he sick that time?

PrairieMom replied: We called poison control after The Boy ate some Desitin when he was littler, and they told us that at the worst, if he ate a ton of it it could cause "loose Bowels" . It could be the Desi, but it could be a tummy virus too.

I don't know.It said it can just cause GI upset. I have always heard before that most of the stuff we have in our houses for babies(i.e. baby oil,baby powder,diaper ointment,ETC) is actually dangerous to them if they get into it. I would not however think the runny nose would be caused by Desitin so maybe he has a stomach bug or cold that is upsetting his tummy. With the fever and since it has continued I would call your pedi and get him in just to be sure. I hope he feels better soon!

A&A'smommy replied: I seriously doubt he has a fever from eating diaper cream.. there is stomach virus going around that comes with low grade fever so that could be it.. or it could be from two things fever from something else and loose bowels from eating the cream... anyway I hope he feels better soon!!

ITA, I think it's a virus of some sort. Maybe loose BM's because of the cream too. I didn't call the Poison Control number after he ate it, because he's done this before. (not saying it's ok to eat it, but he didn't eat a lot, and nothing happened the last time he did this) Sometimes I forget to put it up out of reach, after every diaper change. But I'm going to be more consciece of it now.

MommyToAshley replied: He may have a virus, but I would call Poison Control (or your doc) just to be safe. Not all brands of diaper cream contain the same ingredients, so I would have the box or tube handy when you call them.

My2Beauties replied: I agree, I would have contacted poison control immediately each time he ate it. Anything that contains zinc and stuff in it like that could be potentially harmful if ingested. Hope he feels better and that's it not the Desi but just a little virus

ilovemybaby replied: Baby oil will actually kill a baby if they inhale it. It coats the lungs and they can't breathe. I heard of an 18 month old baby that died from baby oil.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: GW vibes for Cameron! I think it must be the virus going around. Wil had it three weeks ago and a touch of it again last night. No cold with it though, but definitely vomitting, loose BMs and fever. I would tell your ped about the Desitin just to be on the safe side, but I don't think that would cause a fever.
