C- SECTION - ... hummmm ...
Mommy2Isabella wrote: I am addicted to A Baby's Story and Bringing Home Baby on TLC! It seems like the women on here have C- Sections ALL THE TIME! Is it just me?
Also, women who have them are like YES! I don't get it ... and what changes the way you give birth I know the doctor decides but the most recent one I watched the baby was about 10 lbs and the doctor decided C- Section.
HUMM ... just thought this was interesting ! I was 9 lbs 4 oz and my mom pushed all of me out ! LOL ... Sal was about 10 and his mom had a c- section, I hear that the baby takes after the dad in birth weight ... any truth to that ...
luvbug00 replied: I dunno but persoanaly I'd rather DIE then have somone go at me with a knife..
gr33n3y3z replied: most depends on how the mother is built i could not deliver a baby over 7lbs bc I'm very small So maybe thats the reason for them getting one done
Kaitlin'smom replied: really you would rather you both DIE then let them do a c-section?
I dont agree on slective c-secions for convience but for medical emergencies yes by all means. I sure did not want one but when Kait went into distress and her heartbeat down into the 40's get her out. Not the way I wanted to expierence child birth but in the end I have a beautiful happy and healthy daughter and thats all that matters.
luvmykids replied: It does seem like a lot of those women have c-sections, my doc and I only talked about it in case of emergency. My babies were all fairly small, the twins were 5lb6oz and 4lb11oz and Macie was in the 7lb range, so I guess that's why it wasn't a concern?
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Yeah I've noticed that a lot of the women on those shows end up with c-sections, too. It seems like a lot of doctors are pushing c-sections now, without even trying a natural delivery. You never know until you try. Of course I understand that a lot of times there is a really good reason to do a c-section - I'm not knocking those who have had them. I just hate that it's used just for convenience's sake so much.
PrairieMom replied: I think it really depends on how the mother is built and how the labor is progressing. If the labor isn't progressing, or if the baby is being stressed to much they will to a c-section, and I know that a lot of times they will encourage c-sections if the mother has had one before. Oh, and the trend is turning to doing breeech deliverys via c-section too. just for safety. (what do you do if the baby's whole body comes out, and the head gets stuck in the mothers pelvis?) i see a need for them, but I would rather do it the "natural" way if it is safe for me and baby. the thought of the procedure scares me. acutally, the Catheter and the epidural you get when you have a c-section scare me more than the acutal operation!
MyLuvBugs replied: I heard that it's usually an average of the mom's birth weight and the dads birth weight. DH was 10 lbs 7 oz at birth. I was only 7 lbs. 7 oz. and Lorelei was born at 8 lbs. 10 oz. Right about average for the both of us. And both my mom and my MIL had NATURAL (NO DRUG) child births.
The biggest part of deciding on a c-section though is the size of the baby in relation to the moms size or pelvis size. I had a friend in California that was extremely petite (size 2 on a fat day KWIM?) got PG, and HAD TO have a C-section b/c her pelvis wasn't big enough to allow the baby (7 lbs. 1oz) out.
I do agree that c-sections are becoming a little too common place (sorry if that offends anyone). However, they are still called for in a lot of cases to save the mom and baby. KWIM?
danahas4monkeys replied: I have had 3 of my 4 kids via csection, the first csection was after 37 hours of induced labor after being overdue and no signs of baby coming and even with csection he still didnt want to come out he had wedged himself sideways way up high and was a big boy 9lbs 14 oz and 23 inches long. The next csection I elected for simply because, I didnt want to labor again like that just to end up the same way. The last one was a have to cause no doctor around here would do a vbac after 2 sections. Which was ironic cause he was actually my smallest baby and probably would have been an easy birth.

Bee_Kay replied: I had to have Csections with both of my chlidren.
With my daughter, it was because my water broke 2 weeks early and labor just wouldn't kick in.
With my son, I was 2 1/2 weeks late. My water broke and I was in fullblown labor, but I stopped dilating at 6cm, but labor continued. So, they had to give me a drug that stopped labor. I was told that continued labor with stopped dilation can be dangerous to the baby.
3_call_me_mama replied: I'm SO terrified of needles and surgery that it woudl have to mean that my child's life was in GRAVE danger or I was about to die before I woudl conset to one. I 'm just way. IMO it was far less painful to go drugg free natural childbirth than to get an epidural and get cut. Plus teh recovery tiem is much longer and drawn out in most c-section cases. I'm not agianst anyone having them in cases liek Diana mentioned or where mom is just too small in teh pelvic area to deliver, but i really dont' like the fact that peopel schedule them like hair appointments. They are more and more often being done out of convienience rather than necessity, which really bugs me! I mean seriously.... you can't scheduel everything!! And if your Dr is goinmg to be away, you should check into those things before you start your care with him/her or find a dr that you are comfortable with that will be around. A friend had a section a week befoer her due date cause she was due christmas day and teh Dr didnt' want to be stuck delivering on or right around christmas.. well pick a different profession. (He had 5 patients due at that time.. 3 were c sections and 2 were induced ) so her got a week off at christmas cause all his patients had delivered !
luvbug00 replied:
Ditto to above. I don't mind if the baby is big, I'm a pushing out a watermelon. Seriously though Like I've mentioned before Mya wasn't term and my doctor has said it is highly unlikely I can hold a child to term becuase of my medical history. Sooo I don't think a c would ever present itself. and if it did ditto to above and knock me out!
coasterqueen replied: Well sometimes it's not a matter of how big the baby is. I labored for 30 hours, SEVERAL hours of pushing and she would NOT come out. I finally had to have a c/s with my 1st. But I was able to push out my second one.
Bee_Kay replied: I, like karen, was in labor for so long with my son (almost 40 hours) and I simply wouldn't dilate any more.
luvbug00 replied: 40 hours?? whew!! well with mya it was 9 hours and she was out. 2 preterm labors before that too soo my kids are probaly gonna be eagar bevers
Bee_Kay replied: Yep! It was excruciating!
And the whole time doctors and nurses are telling me DON"T PUSH!!
Something about pushing when you aren't fully dilated can hurt the baby's neck. Scary!
CosmetologyMommy replied: MY SON WAS ALMOST 10 POUNDS AND A C-SECTION WAS NEVER EVEN OFFERED TO ME!!!!!!!
Nina J replied: I had a good birth, and would prefer a vaginal birth over a c-section. But, I recommend you don't get an episiotomy. My doctor made me get one for some reason. If you cut a piece of paper, it makes it easier to tear. Well, I found out the same thing happens with skin Apparently it's routine, but it made the tearing way worse for me
Mommy2Isabella replied: I am a VERY SMALL girl! Size 0 pre - pregnancy. Now at 19 weeks. I can still fit into a size 2. I can button and zip them all the way up. The whole deal! After a little while I do become uncomfortable but not unbearable! Though I choose to wear my maternity pants because they are EASY ON EASY OFF... KWIM!! So I am kind of nervous that I will need one. Because of my size, I guess my doctor will know best what I will need and what will be best for me. I am by no means all about scheduling when to have the baby ... lol! I had a family member who was like ... humm YES April 9th sounds good for me ... how about 8:30. WHICH IS CRAZY! If you ask me ... but however, they doctors are telling me to gain weight and I don't want to gain too much and the baby be like 12lbs < is that possible .. and them try to make me push that out ... OUCH!
luvbug00 replied: I was a size 0 too pitete and I gained 30 lbs and my daughter 9 granted came early) was only 5lbs 3 oz. and i didn't tear or anything.. you should be fine
PrairieMom replied: I don't think you can really control how big your baby is going to be. Your baby will "steal " the nutrients it needs from you and your body. I wouldn't worry to much about baby weight gain. It will come off again. (eventually) It took me 10 months to loose the 70 pounds I gained the first time, but The Boy was only 7 pounds when he was born. I say, if Doc. says gain weight, bring on the ice cream and oreos! Enjoy it while you can. When I hit 24 weeks I started retaining a lot of fluid so now I am on a reduced sodium diet. I would KILL for some french fries! Oh, and chicken tortillia soup with nacho chips... and a cheese burger... OH PIZZA! ugh. when this baby comes out DH is going to have to stop at every fast food restraunt there is between here and the hospital and get me a little of everything!
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Mackenzie was 9 pounds 6 oz and 21 inches long. I only had 2 small tears and her head was as round as it is now. The only way I would have a c section is if the baby was in trouble!!
