Brooke Shields - ppd
kimberley wrote: did anyone hear about her battle with PPD? i just saw a bit on insider and she was telling her story. it is sooooo sad and so true that PPD is very real and can be dangerous! just her indifference with a baby she spent so long trying to conceive... it's really heartbreaking. i am glad that she is trying to bring public awareness to this issue. i still will never forget the doctor here who was such a nice and respected lady... she jumped in front of a subway because she couldn't cope with her PPD. her OB brushed off her symptoms when she told him as "baby blues" and sent her home he could have saved their lives with one prescription.
A&A'smommy replied: OMG I want to see that I LOVE brooke shields!! PPD is SOOO scary I didn't really have it very bad after I had Alyssa thank goodness but I wouldn't wish it one anyone!!!
JessC replied: Yeah I read her story in I think... Very sad, I hope I am never like that.
Good housekeeping? - Her daughter is so cute also!
jolene555 replied: oprah did her whole show with brooke yesterday i think. it was very sad, and interesting as well. now that i look back i definately had some of those feelings after georgia. i had always thought that ppd was when you hate your baby, but she just actually hated herself.
coasterqueen replied: I saw Oprah's show yesterday with Brooke on it. I was in tears watching it. It's such a real thing and I'm so glad she spoke up about it. It sure opened my eyes as well.
mammag replied: I saw her on the today show talking about it. It is really sad. She was saying that she wanted out of her life and something about wanting to take a whole bottle of pills. That's a tough place to be in and even when you think it but say "oh, I'd never really do it" you kind of worry that one day you will do it before you come to your senses.
I like her a lot too. I was just telling Kristen the other day that she has a similar look to her and I could see her looking like that when she is older.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: She was on Oprah yesterday. She is promoting her book "Down Came the Rain". For all who didn't see it and want to read her story you can get the book. It is so sad. I felt so bad for her. I'm grateful to her for speaking out about this. Anyone who shares their story like this is helping so many women in ways they will never know.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I watched the Opera interview with Brook Shields earlier this week. I was very touched by her story. It's so sad when you hear about how many women are affected by this and that a lot of women don't come forward because they are ashamed of what they are thinking and feeling. Mothers aren't "supposed to think like that!" A lot of doctors don't understand and many women fall through the cracks. I think it was very couragous of her to tell her story and to write her book. I plan to read it when the Public Library gets a copy of it. To bring more awareness out there, not just of PPD, but of other Mental Illness and to remove the stigma for so many people! We shouldn't have to be ashamed!
ediep replied: I saw her on Ophrah too, it was very sad! I am happy she went public with her story becasue it affects so many moms and it helps to see someone famous dealing with it and getting help and eventually overcoming it!
Jamison'smama replied: She is also on A&E Biography. Since they replay those farily often, you may be able to catch it there if you missed it on Oprah.
MommyToAshley replied: I missed it. I probably would have cried the entire show though. I wonder if Oprah will repeat it, I'd like to see it.
I agree, I think its great that she is talking publicly about it. I bet it opens a lot of eyes.
MommyToAshley replied: Thanks.. we were posting at the same time, you must have read my mind!!!!
