Broccoli topping - Besides cheese or butter

CantWait wrote: Making Broccoli for Thanksgiving and want to try something new. Not the best time to do it, but I'm really getting tired of plain broccoli, it's fine for everyday, but I want to try something different for the holidays. My grandma use to make a yummy crusty topping for cauliflower and I was hoping to do something similiar with the broccoli.

Does anyone have any ideas?

CantWait replied:
That one might be a contender. Would you still serve stuffing though with the turkey?

grapfruit replied: A friend of mine puts butter and lemon juice on it. It's not fancy but it's pretty good! happy.gif

I could eat nothing but this for an entire meal. I love it so much! laugh.gif

avory&samsmom replied: My mom makes a fabulous broccoli casserole:

Fresh broccoli and culiflower with cream of mushroom soup, pearl onions, and shredded sharp cheddar cheese and bread crumbs on top...its a family fav. for every holiday. wink.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Steam the broccoli until it's al dente (still a bit crunchy). Then drizzle olive oil and lemon juice over it, sortof like a vinegarette. Then add chopped almonds or toasted pinenuts. Serve warm.

redchief replied: You could roast them in an oven with olive oil and your choice of seasoning. I saw a R-Ray show the other day where she did them... I think you need a pretty hot oven, though and that may be a problem if you're baking a lot of other things in there. All I can remember is that I could almost smell them through the TV and I wanted to make them. I'm going to try and figure it out in the next couple weeks. I'll let you know how it works out.
