Breakfast for a 1 year old....
MyLuvBugs wrote: Ok, So what do you give your 1 year old/toddler for breakfast? Do they eat a lot or just pick at it? Do they feed themselves?
coasterqueen replied: Gosh it's been awhile, I swear my memory is going fast. I usually always gave Kylie fruit of some kind. She usually ate a pretty good breakfast and still does.
PrairieMom replied: The Boy has had instant oatmeal for beakfast for as long as I can remember. It sticks to the spoon so it is easy for him to feed himself.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Our girls always ate pretty much anything. From eggs, to oatmeal (still their favorite) to toaster swirls.
moped replied: Oatmeal, toast, muffin, yogurt..........breakfast is the good meal - he is hungry in the morning - whatever I have.
ediep replied: Jason ate cheerios, pancakes, or french toast at that age
he ate by himself since about 10 months old
C&K*s Mommie replied: oh yeah!! Jen reminded me!!! Yogurt is great, they have that YoBaby kind that is thick & can stick to the spoon really well. Or even fruit cocktail (you may have to take out the pears, sometimes they are harder than the other fruits)
But our girls ate almost anything you will put in front of them (except meats, they are not big on that)
MyLuvBugs replied: Thanks for all the ideas! Lorelei just isn't into eating breakfast lately. I give her a handful of Cheerios to munch on, and then I mix up some cereal for her. But she just won't eat hardly any of it. She just wants to play with the spoon and the bowl, and cheerios. It's so frustrating...
moped replied: That is about the age when Jack started eating toast and stuff for breaky - he no longer wanted cereal at all - so try some toast and yogurt or appleasauce and toast - I bet she will love breakfast soon
My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke has always liked toast...waffles or eggs were good for her too. She is just now starting to get into cereal.
MamaMooBoo replied: Maci eats Pancakes and French Toast STicks and Eggs and cooked apples usually. Mostly stuff she can pick up
toothytracie replied: When O is home, I feed her the fruit flavored oatmeal every morning. I have tried other things but she loves the oatmeal. At the babysitters though, she is feeding her all kinds of things like toast, eggs, cereal, etc. She has been eating tablefood for breakfast only since she was 1yr old.
luvmykids replied: My kids all loved scrambled eggs with cheese, cottage cheese, and anything they could dip in yougurt. I fed them myself until they realized how much they liked it and then they went for it. When they went through picky phases I didn't worry too much about it being "breakfast" food, just tried to get them to eat something they liked. One baby ate rice with cheese and any kind of pasta for a good month for breakfast.
MyLuvBugs replied: Thank you all so very much!! And Jen that's an awesome Idea!! I bought some yogurt for me to help with my tummy, so maybe I'll try some yogurt and toast tomorrow.
I'll let you all know how it works out .
PrairieMom replied: All you folks that give their children eggs, do you give them the white and the yolk? What age is it safe to start giving them eggs? I remeber seperating the white from the yolk for the boy. Or have the rules changed now? I have to brush up on this baby stuff!
3_call_me_mama replied: My kids pretty much ate whatever i ate or whatever we had on hand. Toast and fruit was a big favorite. We always follow teh rule a grain, a fruit or veggie adn milk (protein and other things optional) We don't do donuts, poptarts or toaster streudel things cause they are full of sugar and nto a good way to start the day IMO. But eggs and cheese were big hit too with a toast and juice and maybe yogurt (if we were eating a late breakfast/big weekend breakfast) They both ate tabel foods from six months and had a mouthfull of teeth (well cameron more than Kat) but from about 9-10 months they could feed themselves with a spoon pretty well nad had no trouble using their hands at all cameron STILL doesnt' liek cereal (cheerios or kix or whatever) with milk. He'll eat it dry though. And Kathleen loves it, a bowl of kix with strawberries cut up in it is quickly becomming her favorite! We stopped baby cereal about 7-8 months (and even form 6 months they only had it in the morning)
Oh I just remembered another good option is the Gerber Little Flakes. Kat LOVED those they are flakes that kinda stick togetehr when wet and they are VERY easy to scoop for toddlers. Taste pretty good too. (They sell them in the baby food aisle!)
Kaitlin'smom replied: around that age it was waffels, toast, oatmeal, some times cereal, yes even wagon wheels.
MyLuvBugs replied: Just an update....She HATES toast. UGH THis child is just like her father. But she LOVES yogurt. However, she refuses to feed herself all of a sudden. UGH. Just shoot me now....
moped replied: I didn't give jack eggs at all until after a year but then he didn't like them anyways!!!!! Yeah, be careful with eggs for sure
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Mackenzie gets eggs, pancakes, toast, cheerios, fruit for breakfast. Her favorite is eggs and she has been eating them for awhile now. I never seperated the egg, never heard anything bad about giving a child an egg.
MyLuvBugs replied: Yep! We tried eggs this morning, and she LOVED them. Inhaled the whole thing! Thank goodness. Thanks for all the advice.
moped replied: Oh I wish Jack would eat eggs!!! How did you cook them - scrambled, fried?
3_call_me_mama replied: My kids had egg yolks (scrambled ) around 8months and teh white around 1 year. They are HUGH fans of boiled eggs and scrambled eggs with cheese. i just cut the boiled eggs in quarters and they pick them up and eat them .
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Eggs, oatmeal, apple sauce, diced fruit, yogurt, bread and occasionally pancakes or waffles. Wil is just now starting to want to feed himself...he's 16 months. I let him dip his little spoon in his oatmeal or yogurt.
fashionmumofboys replied: My boys ate toast, cheerios, waffles, at that age, but breakfast was not their fav.
I pretty much fed them until they took over.
MyLuvBugs replied: Scrambled with a little salt and pepper. The same way I cook them for myself. lol
kit_kats_mom replied: I add butter to the scrambled eggs too. Lauren loves them. You are not supposed to introduce egg whites until after the first birthday since they can be highly allergenic. Even longer if you suspect allergies or if anyone in your family suffers from egg allergies.
MyLuvBugs replied: Really?? No one ever told me that. Lorelei eat some deviled eggs when she was 10 months. I wonder why this was never brought up at our Dr. appts.
