Brae's Ears..

Boys r us wrote: Well, the doctor said he wasn't going to push anything on me, but that something had to be done and I had two choices, A) the tubes B)put him on a preventative antibiotic which he will take everyday and then if that doesn't work, opt for the
tubes.

I decided on plan B...so we'll take it from here and if he gets even one more ear infection, we'll get tubes.

~KARA~ replied: I hope the meds work for him. My mom has had to have tubes done once a year for as long as i can remember. Also an ear infection can go to soemthing really serious with in days!!

kimberley replied: i hope the meds work too. sending lots of ~*~*stay healthy*~*~ vibes to Brae!

GavinsMommy replied: Cool! Don't worry, he'll do fine if he has to get them! My sister was totally fine, and most people are usually. smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: hope the meds work and no more ear infections

My2Beauties replied: I hope the meds work - but a preventative antibiotic blink.gif sort of scares me? Could he possibly become immune to this? Would he need this antibiotic for other illnesses? Just concerned that's all!

ediep replied: hope those meds work soon!!!

JAYMESMOM replied: I had to make the same decision for my daughter and we went with the tubes. We go in Friday to get them done. I didn't want the long term antibiotics because of the resistance your body can build to them. Also antibiotics only help an infection it does nothing to control the fluid build-up in the ear. The whole process to get tubes put in is 10-15 minutes. It then allows the fluid to drain from the inner ear out the ear vs. the eustachian tubes. They stay in longer now than they used to and they don't have to worry about water anymore (unless they go diving or swin under water for long periods - then they need to wear plugs.)

Good luck with the antibiotics. But don't let the worry of "surgery" scare you away from tubes.

gr33n3y3z replied: Good move Nichole
Thats what we did also then we had to do plan A
I hope this works for you

Boys r us replied: The antibiotic is nothing I've ever heard of before...it's a low dose. The reason we opted for this route right now is because it is spring time, he is almost 3 yrs old..so if he's going to outgrown them, now is the time....He's going to stay on the antibiotic now through the beginning of June and if he gets another e.i. during that time, then we'll go with tubes. Beginning in June, we will take him off the meds and see what happens, b/c then the cold weather will play no part in giving him the ear infections...at that point we'll know that tubes are definitely something we need to go forward with. A mjor deciding factor in opting against the tubes right now is primarily I want to exhaust all of the options before we resort to surgery and secondly, we go to the beach A LOT in the spring/summer/fall and he would not be able to get in the ocean..not even with ear plugs the doctor said b/c the risk is too great for infection. We also go to my parents lake house a lot and he wouldn't be able to get lake water, not even a splash of it in his ears with the plugs..so no boating or anything. The doctor said any type of water which has fish or other animals in it would be out of the question due to the bacteria from the animal feces and so forth in the water..said it would definitely cause an infection...of course, the tubes would drain the infection out..but still..not good! So we're going to try our hand at this, I'm very confident in the advice he gave me, this doctor comes very highly reccommended!

mom21kid2dogs replied: Boy~that's a hard decision to make, huh? unsure.gif No one wants to think of "inflicting" surgery on our kiddos but I share your concern about the consequences of long term antibiotic use. What did the doc say about it?
I was on antibiotics for about 15 years for my acne (remember, I'm old~way older than Retinin A , Accutane, etc) and as a result I am EXTREMELY antibiotic resistant. Luckily, I'm pretty healthy but it has always posed a problem when I need an antibiotic because they are very slow to work.

A&A'smommy replied: Well that sounds like a much better way to go, I hope this works so he doesn't have to have tubes!!! ((((HUGS)))) poor guy I'm going to pray that the antibodics will work for him!!
