Birth Control-maybe TMI - patch or ring

jacobsmama wrote: I wanted to make sure that you all are aware that orthoevera the birthcontrol patch has a new case study out that shows that ppl on it are at increased risk for bloodclots regardless if you smoke or your age. It has a much higher dose of estrogen. Doctors are really calling about it but you should know. I was on it because I had so much trouble remembering to take my pill since I had jacob and then the news came out and I switched to something new and I love it!!

I bet that you all have by now saw commercial on TV for the birthcontrol ring it is called NUVARING. I work at OBGYN so convienetly I tried a sample and I love it. SO I just wanted to share with you all if you are having a hard time remembering your pill or are looking for a new form of birthcontrol this is a great option!!

Basically it is like a round hair tie and you just insert it into the vagina (I know sounds awful but if you take out the tampon and use the applicator to put it in it works perfect) You leave it in for 3 weeks!! I know also sounds gross but you can't feel it, It doesn't fall out and your partner can't feel it either. You all will love it!! Sorry may be TMI but you all should know good options. tongue.gif

holley79 replied: Ok, I am wondering now. I will need something after Annika is born. How does it effect breast milk supply. People have been telling me I can't breastfeed and use BC.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I recently saw a comercial fo rit and was wondering about it. Well you told us how to easly put it in but how does it come out?

moped replied: Yeah - tell me more about it please...................

moped replied: Is this something that is perscribed??

MomToMany replied: Yes, Ortho Evra patch is a prescription, as well as the Nuva Ring. Here's a link to the Ortho Evra warning.

Yes, you can breastfeed & use birth control. Just be careful of the ones that use hormones. Kellymom.com has great info on what's safe for breastfeeding moms.

holley79 replied: Thanks Mollie for the links.

I was thinking the ring also because I wouldn't have to worry about missing a pill. I have patted myself on the back remembering to take my prenatal. I am the worlds worse about remembering to take pills.

ammommy replied: I just switched from the patch to the ring because the patch gave me horrible headaches. It's so easy to use. I just hope that I can remember to take it out on week 3 biggrin.gif

jacobsmama replied: Sorry took me so long to responed back but you cannot use the ring or the patch with breastfeeding because it has estrogen in it. The only thing you can take is Micronor because it has only progesterone or depo provera.

I like the ring alot it is easy to take out you just push down like your going to have a BM and pull it out with your pinkie. It is actually pretty easy to do. I hop you all will try it and yes you have to have a RX from your doctor. I could send you a sample if you talk to your dr about it!! Let me know.. Kristi

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: It's not like the new one that only gives you a period like three times a year, is it? That souns unhealthy IMO. But I would try the ring if the side effects are pretty minimal. I haven't been on BC for several years now, but thinking about it after the baby comes, although you say you can't BF on the ring.

I tried using a diaphragm once and about fainted from trying to get it out, so I'm not sure I can handle this one...is it similar? Thanks for the tip!

holley79 replied: All I could think about when I was watching the video of the insert and removal was "Sex in the City" when SJ Parker couldn't get her diaphram out. biggrin.gif Sorry I am SO easily amused right now.

I guess we will just have to use condoms till I am done BFing.

LeesAnn'smommy replied: Well i am on the ring and i love it. My husband actually had to talk me into trying it. I wanted to do the patch, but my husband thought that the ring would be easier. Problem like everyone else i thought i couldn't put something in like every three weeks. I thought gross. It really isn't that bad at all. You have your period like normal. They have been thinking lately that I may have endometrios. So they said if i wanted to put a ring in for 3 weeks and then put another in as soon as i take that one out. Usually you would leave it out for 1 week for your period. Put since i am having so many problems they wanted my to try that. I highly recommend the ring. If you are considering it it's a great option as far a birth control goes. Its the best one i have tryed.

My2Beauties replied: Wow as many of you know, I've had some BC woes. I was always icked out by the thought of the ring, but you've peaked my curiosity, right now the rhythym method we're using is scaring me *uh-hum* so I was at odds of what to do since right now is not a good time for baby #2! wink.gif
