Big brother gift - Did you??
moped wrote: SO I think I have heard that some of you gave your first child a gift when the seocnd arrived. What sort of thing did you give? Just curious..........
Thanks
lovemy2 replied: Yep Olivia got a new Dora doll when she came to the hospital - to this day she thinks Dylan actually went with us to get it for her sometime in the about 6 hours between when he was born and she first saw him
moped replied: ok, so we are looking at like $30?
kit_kats_mom replied: Lauren brought Katherine the Dora Talking Backpack and some craft stuff. It was very thoughtful of the baby to bring something for Katherine to play with while she monopolized all of mommies time right? LOL
lovemy2 replied: Yep - on the nose - is there something he has been asking for?
For Olivia it was great cause she was thrilled to have gotten a present so close to Christmas - she gets cut off from just about every extra little thing when Xmas gets close
PrairieMom replied: I got him a shirt that said "big Brother" on it, and Al a matching oneise that said " little sister" Then I took him to build a bear and helped him make a bear for the baby. One day when he was at school I went there and made a bear for him from the baby that had a shirt on it that said "big brother" so when he came to the hospital to see the baby for the first time he gave her his bear, then she surprised him with one of his own.
luvbug00 replied: I think it's really a cute idea for the younger kids, but Mya's gift will be her sibling themselves and i think she'll be ok with that . After all she asks for one alll the time!
moped replied: Oh he asks for everyhting - but I will have to actually start paying attention!!
I did get 2 huge garbage bags full of stuff in Montana - mostly CARS and Thomas stuff that I am sure I could use.
Calimama replied: That is sooo cute!! I may have to steal that idea if we ever have another.
coasterqueen replied: Kylie got Megan something - She got her an outfit and blanket.
Megan got Kylie a doctor's kit.
We got her a "I'm the Big Sister" shirt.
mummy2girls replied: well what you shoudl do is when the baby is born give address the present from the baby to big brother. and pick something Jack as always wanted so he will be thrilled his sister got hims omething he has always wanted!
moped replied: I wonder what he has always wanted............
Jamison'smama replied: Jamison made Jack a build a bear and did the custom voice and she said "Welcome Jack" she was 2. Jack gave Jamison a new doll pack-n-play just like his and a doll carseat/carrier. She also got a box of activities to do while he nursed, books, colorforms, magnadoodle, magnet play sets etc.
ediep replied: we got jason a new toy, it was a little handheld computerized writing toy. Teaches his to write letters..... can't think of what its called.
I packed it with my hospital bag and when DH brought him to visit me after Emma was born, I gave it to him.
CantWait replied: Pokemon cards lmao.
skinkybaby replied: We got our oldest one of the fisher price cameras so she could take her own pictures of everything. She absolutely loved it!
mom2patrick&jalin replied: Patrick made his baby sister an outfit to get her first picture taken in and for her to come home from the hospital in. Jalin got her big brother an activity pack because he was 7 and sat at the hospital for a long time after she was born. He also recieved a new outfit from her.
Brias3 replied: Omg, that is SUCH a cute idea!!!
Brias3 replied: I feel kinda bad, I honestly didn't even think of this. Both Ryan and Aliyah got gifts from others when new baby gifts arrived after each subsequent birth, but we didn't do gifts from baby to sibling
I really should have done it, its a really cute idea! Now I feel sheepish.....
paradisemommy replied: we did the "I'm the BIG brother" t-shirt and "I'm the LITTLE sister" onsie and actually got it personalized with their names on it...then..
i went and got him a new backpack and filled it with all kinds of small toys - new coloring book, cars, crayons, handheld games and gave it to him at the hospital when he came to visit - that way when everyone was visiting and busy with the baby, he would have a ton of things to do in his little backpack..
lisar replied: Lexi got a t-shirt that said I am the Big Sister. And Granny also made her a dress that matched Raygens on her comming home outfit so that same day Lexi wore hers.
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: When Alyx was born I had a tee-shirt from Alyx to Megan that said I am the big sister. Megan loved it. I got it from HERE. The company was great. When I ordered it I forgot to add Megan's name to it. I called soon after placing the order (like 30 mins) and they said that was no problem and what name did I want. It arrived super fast too. If I remember correctly I got within a week. They come highly recommended from me.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We bought Wil the Fisher Price castle. Kept him busy for hours. Friends gave him lots of books and my parents bought him his first tryke.
kimberley replied: i got Jacob a bear and some coloring books and new crayons. he loved it. i couldn't find a big bro t-shirt or i would have got him one.
Boys r us replied: Well, we didn't do a gift per say..but what we did was get 2 gift bags(1 for each big brother) and I put special things in it that they would need at the hospital. I put in a disposable camera for each of them, a small bottle of hand sanitizer (along with that came the "responsibility" of making sure anyone holding their new sister had been degermed), some Candy, $5 in one dollar bills for the vending machines and just some other little things that were tailored to their interests i.e. coloring books for Braedon and crayons etc..
It made them feel special and they each had their own camera to take pics of their new sister.
Boo&BugsMom replied: We did. I found a bunch of superman gear on clearance at Walmart at the time. A superman cape, gloves, and a few other things. When we gave them to him I told him he could be "super brother". I also had Tanner go out and pick something for the baby.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I think I spent $7 because the things I found were on clearance. Aiden's was about $10 I think. So $17 total for us. I'm cheap.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Hey Jen, do they have a big sibling class somewhere near you? The hospital Troy works for had a sibling class for them to take. It showed the big sibling's how to change a diaper, hold the baby, and other great information for them, like safety stuff. Tanner loved it! It made him feel very proud to be a big brother. He also got a pin that said "I'm the big brother" on it and he wore it to the hospital, some play diapers to practice on a teddy bear, and other handy items.
moped replied: Gee I don't know - I am sure there is something like that here - I must check!
Thanks!
lovemy2 replied: Oh yeah - Olivia did that too - it was fabulous and then they took them up to the maternity ward and they saw as she put it "a brand new real live baby that moved and cried and everything" She had no idea they would be that "big" she said Mommy that baby in your tummy is THAT big - how does he fit in there I have to say though - the whole class prompted many many questions
bunkie replied: We put together a bag for our daughter who was then 16 months for the hospital.
We did everything brand new so she could see it was a treat. We got a backpack and filled it with a coloring book, crayons, a little paint book that uses a water pen, a brand new book about animals (she still loves that book) and a lovey. She wore a shirt that said "I'm the Big Sister" and it was really great. I'm glad I did it.
ETA: We also bought her a baby about a month before I was due to show her to be gentle with the baby, when we had the baby she was always signing to us to be gentle
holley79 replied: Oh now that is precious!
I bought Brandon a necklace that was a St Christopher's medal from Annika since he was going into the Army.
