Big boo boo
kit_kats_mom wrote: We'd gone to Busch Gardens and had a great day. Katherine even rode her first "big girl" ride...the log flume...with mom & with dad. She loved it so much that she went 4 times in a row.
When we got home, I was nursing Lauren in the office and finally checking the board. DH was making soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner & all of a sudden I hear a blood curdling scream from K. I run into the kitchen and DH has her and she's screaming & crying...bright red face. We finally figured out that she'd put her hand on the burner after DH turned it off. He'd turned around to put the pan in the sink. I guess she turned to watch him and set her little hand right on it. We usually let her stand on a chair at the counter while we cook and she know's better (although I generally leave her further away from the stove than he had her) but accidents happen.
we ran it under cool water & checked it out. Some of the skin was white so we decided to take her to the afterhours pediatrician. She screamed and cried the whole way. She'd calm down then it would start hurting again & she'd freak out again. She has second degree burns on the right index finger & the palm under that & first degree burns on each other finger. The only part of her hand that escaped was her thumb.
He wrapped it up, mitten like, in a big bandage & gave me some perscription cream & some tylenol with Codeine to help her relax (I'm tellin' you she was a MESS, couldn't calm down, freaking out mess). I'm supposed to rewrap it once a day & take her back to the ped on Saturday AM for a recheck. She said it's feeling better today.
Anyway, I realized that I need to hang a First Aid chart in my house somewhere. Maybe on the inside of both of the medicine cabinets? I did pretty good but I really couldn't remember exactly what to do. I also couldn't find my sterile gauze pads.
Please send her thoughts & prayers for a speedy recovery. That's her coloring hand and it's gonna be a pain for a bit.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Oh my gosh ~ poor Katherine! That's one of my biggest fears - I don't know what I'm going to do when Andrew is big enough to reach the stove top. I hope K's hand gets better fast so she can get back to coloring.
ediep replied: awww, poor thing!! Sending prayers your way!!!
DansMom replied: OMG, poor Katherine! This is something I keep fearing Daniel will do---that exact thing. I've been thinking lately, too, that I don't have a first aid kit per se---just a bunch of stuff in the linen closet. I second the motion for posted emergency procedures---that's a great idea.
3_call_me_mama replied: AWWWW HUGS and prayers for quick healing!
My2Beauties replied: Oh poor K! I hope she has a speedy recovery, I would have been so scared. I need to think about these things too, we have a small first aid kit in the drawer, but I don't keep it stocked KWIM. I'm so sorry that happened Cary! Bless her little heart
CosmetologyMommy replied: awwwww so sorry
jdkjd replied: Poor baby!!
A&A'smommy replied: OMG poor baby girl!!!!! TONS of prayers her way for a her little hand... I hope she is back to coloring REALLY soon (without pain) !!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh poor little sweetheart! I hope she recovers quickly. Accidents do happen. Posting first aid notes is a good idea, thanks for the reminder!
jcc64 replied: Oh Cary, that's horrible- the poor little thing. Burns are so painful to begin with, and then with all the nerve endings in the hands, she's gonna be hurting for awhile. My girlfriend just had a very similiar injury from hot soup right out of the microwave, and she's been pretty uncomfortable. Keep it very very clean, as I'm sure you've been told. Big big hugs and kisses to ALL of you!
jem0622 replied: Poor girly. I'm so sorry you had this scare. I'm very anal about keeping things on the burner. I put my water kettle on the hot burner until it cools. She will definitely not do that again!
My3LilMonkeys replied: I hope she feels better soon. Good thought on the first aid notes - I should get some hung up somewhere.
PhiMuMommy replied: don't feel too bad.. alex touched the rack in the oven while i had my hands full with a casserole pan and couldn't stop him.. i yelled but he didn't listen till it was too late..
the good thing.. he hasn't gone near the stove since....
~~*Missi*~~ replied: ahhh i hope she heals fast. accidents happen make sure daddy remember thats..
C&K*s Mommie replied: Hopes for a speedy recovery, Katherine.
MommyToAshley replied: Oh no... poor K! I am so afraid something like this is going to happen to Ashley. We have a flat cooktop and it would be so easy to reach up there and touch the hot stove, so I keep the kitchen gated off. But, accidents happen so fast.
Glad to hear she got some meds to help .... hope she has a quick and speedy recovery. Tell Woody not to be too hard on himself, it was an accident and it could have happened to any of us.
Lots of hugs for sweet K!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: OMG! I just want to cry for her. I bet you were just sick to your stomach for awhile. You probably needed a little calm down medicine, too, huh? I hope it heals really fast. Burns are just so awful. Bless her heart.
MamaJAM replied: Poor kiddo. Hope she's all better soon.
Rileysmom replied: Poor baby!! I hope she feels better and is coloring again soon.
