Big Field Trip - How much money to send?

Momof3inMe wrote: Tyler is going to Boston for the day with his school in a few weeks. They are going to take a train to get there then spend the day doing different things. My question is how much money do I send? He has to buy all his meals and snacks.

I want him to work for the money around the house before he goes. So I am going to make a list of things and how much he will get for each one.

luvbug00 replied: Sounds about right! wink.gif But if your anything like me slip the kid a $10 just in case.. happy.gif

moped replied: How long is he going for??? I would say about $30/day for meals and snacks and misc items

luvmykids replied: Do they have to pay for other activities/sights too? I think I would send enough to buy a souvenier too, maybe match what he earns up to $15 or something?

MamaJAM replied: $10 per meal (I assume lunch and maybe dinner)
$5 for a 'snack'
$5-10 for souveniers at each site they visit

We went to Boston on a vacation not that long ago and things seem way more expensive up there -- better to send more than he'll need then to worry about him needing more. Especially if you'll be making a list of what he's allowed to spend on what.

Momof3inMe replied: He is going for the day they will leave school like 6am and be back like 9pm. ITs about a 2 hour train ride to get there.

All of the things they do will be paid to the school before they go so its just for food and what ever else he needs.

His dad and I are going to go in half of what ever he is going to bring so I think I am going to say he can get 25 from me if he works really hard. I want to make sure he has enough.

Do you think 50.00 is to much?

luvmykids replied: thumb.gif Sounds good, I was thinking $30 but that is a long day and you're right, better to have too much than not enough! Hope he has a great time!

AlexsPajamaMama replied: $50 sounds good for food, drinks and souveniers. When we went with school it felt like we were never sent with enough money to buy stuff we wanted after having to buy our meals.

Thats a great idea to make him work for the money! smile.gif

Hope Ty has a good time on his trip!

Kaitlin'smom replied: may I ask how old he is? who will be taking care of his money? Is he going to be responsible for it or will he have help from a parent/teacher?

sounds like fun though.

amynicole21 replied: I think $40 - $50 sounds about right thumb.gif

MamaJAM replied: I think $50 is perfect....especially if you set the limits like you said before (to keep him from spending everything on junk and not getting dinner wink.gif ). One big thing -- make sure he's got smaller bills (nothing larger than a 10) -- that way he doesn't have to deal with tons of change.

Momof3inMe replied:
Good idea about the small bills!!!!

Tyler will be 11 on the 26th of May. He will be taking care of his own money unless his dad goes with him. I feel he will be ok with the money in small bills. He has been doing a lot with school sports this year and with that they have had to stop for dinner on the road I give him 5.00 to go to Wendy's and he has done a great job so far.

CantWait replied: I'd say $40 since he'll probably want to get suveniers (sp?) as well.

asweetnectarwomb replied: with your kid's age, I think $50 is fine...

nice trip! don't forget to buy ur mom a cute souvenir...

gr33n3y3z replied: I was going to say around 50.00 bc nothing in Boston is cheap
I hope he has a great time

Momof3inMe replied: Thanks everyone for your input. We are going to give him 50.00 to take with him. He has a birthday 2 weeks before the trip so we told him that he can take some birthday money with him also. I want to make sure he has enough money with him. We sat down last night and had the talk about how if you lose money or if some one stole it from you that he would go with no food or drink while he was there and he said "Oh man that would be no fun" so I think he will make sure his money is spent on things he needs to get then on things he wants.

Oh man my baby is getting so big so fast!
