Benadryl/Breastfeeding - Update!!

mckayleesmom wrote: Im so excited. My rash is finally gone after 4 days of benadryl to the max. Although I was taking the benadryl it made my breast supply increase, however it was really watery so I didn't feed Russell for 4 days. I kept pumping and pumping, but it was still watery looking. Since I was benadryl free since early yesterday I decided to try breastfeeding Russell today. Even if it was still watery I figured that the worst that could happen is that he would still be hungry. Well that was at 7pm and hes still asleep and its almost 10. He did wake up once, but he only ate 1/2 an ounce of formula. I gave him the formula because I thought that he would have drank the whole thing, because I thought that my breastmilk was just too water, but when he only ate 1/2 an ounce and passed out. I went and took a shower and checked my breast manually and my milk wasn't watery anymore. Im so excited. Im so happy that my little boy isn't picky about where his food comes from. Nipple confusion isn't in his vocabulary. thumb.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Im just so happy. I have to admit that even if I had given up..I did put up one heck of a fight before I did...I had that stinkin rash since he was born and held out on taking the benadryl so I could breastfeed him...but finally I snapped. I still don't know what caused alot of it. Im just hoping it stays gone.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: thumb.gif Awww that's wonderful! I'm so glad that you were able to continue breastfeeding!

BTW, your breastmilk is still good even if it looks watery. The most common reason breastmilk can look watery is if you are having oversupply issues which just means less hindmilk and more foremilk. wink.gif I had a lot of that in the beginning but it is still healthier than formula so don't hesitate to BF or give a pumped bottle of ebm wink.gif.

I agree with Karen, a lot of times my bm was watery looking, too. It doesn't mean he isn't getting full on it! thumb.gif Glad there was no nipple confusion. happy.gif

ammommy replied: thumb.gif For both the rash finally being gone and you being able to bf!

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
rolling_smile.gif sorry I just have to giggle a little... I do a double take everytime I see *bm* in a post. After 5 years working in a nursing home *breast milk* is not the first thing that comes to mind! rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied:
rolling_smile.gif I sometimes have to make sure which one is being referred to as well. That's why I use ebm, lol.

MomToMany replied: thumb.gif YAY!!! That's awesome!! I hope you can continue to successfully nurse Russell!

You are so awsome for putting all that hard work into pumping. Way to go Mommy!!

MommyToAshley replied: That is awesome! I really admire your dedication to BF Russell... what a great Mom you are!
