~Roo'sMama~ replied: Vinyl Portrait Dolls This seems like a good place... it costs about $170 if you provide your own clothes or they can provide them for exta. I don't know if that's a good price or not since I've never done this but it seems like a neat idea!
jolene555 replied: Hello!!! I'm glad to see I am not the only one infatuated with the idea of keeping my baby tiny forever!! I made my own doll, and if you'd like to do that I can help you out. But, if you want to have one made, I think I can help there, too. I've listed several sites of artists who advertised doing custom dolls. The next step is some research on your part. You would need to look around, find an artist that you like (look at their galleries and see if you like their other dolls) and one that suits your budget. These are by no means the extent of artists available. I simply did a google search for "custom reborn dolls", which is what they are typically called - "reborns". I know I had found a couple sites that worked off of photos before my comp crashed and didn't come across them again. I will note that if you were wanting this by Christmas you are probubly out of luck, since most reborns take at least 2 weeks to finish.

. . . and if you aren't too hung up on it looking exactly like your girl, check out eBay auctions - you never know, there might be one that resembles her already made (again, search for "reborn doll").
Hope this is what you were looking for.
kimberley replied: thanks! i don't need it for christmas, so there is no rush. i just want it to be as realistic as possible and resemble her. i know i am pathetic but she is my only girl and if my mom ever did such a thing for me, i would cherish that doll forever. it is something that could be passed down for generations. even to her grandkids . plus i get to hold onto my baby a little longer gonna go check out the sites you both listed

mummy2girls replied: Its a sweet idea. I seen one fo those dolls before. Someone in my support group i used to go to when i lost jordan did one up of her son she lost. It scared me a bit but for a different reason. I dont think i would do it of jordan(because to me he is the only jordan) but i may with jenna...
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I didnt' know you could have this done. How did you make your own, Jo? These are the most precious things I have ever seen. Just the thought of having my babies again made me cry.
Kaitlin'smom replied: awww what a sweet idea, i would love that also, Ihave some favorite outfits of Kaitlin that would be fun to do one in.
jolene555 replied: Well, I can tell you that they are definately a labor of love. In total I believe that the cost of making my own was well over $100, so keep that in mind. These dolls that you can buy are rather reasonibly priced. Most of these artsists do it because it's a hobby, not a source of funds. Many folks collect these dolls. All I wanted was one of my Georgia, but I'm looking forward to doing another one (since I have invested my time in learning the process and already have most of the supplies.
The process of making the doll consists of buying the doll you start with, taking it apart, removing factory paint, repainting, blushing, weighting, rooting hair/applying wigs, adding eyelashes/brows/fingernails/lip color, reattaching limbs, and dressing. I'm sure I missed a few steps in there, but that's the jist of it - the whole thing took me over 2 months to do, using only my free time to work on it. I don't think I could ever sell one after working so hard on it.
I'll post the picture of the doll I've done.
jolene555 replied: . . . I will also mention that I dressed my doll in the outfit Georgia came home from the hospital in. If you put the weights in the right places they can feel so real. Anyone who misses their little baby would love one. Besides, I always loved my baby dolls growing up.
loveydad replied: reborns are soo lifelike. my son's gf has two of them and they are completly lifelike. They are set a certain weight and weighted in all the right places. They're soft and they're expensive (she paid $100 and $150) but its worth it
Heres a pic of "Maddie Lynn"
MommyToAshley replied: I didn't know you could have this done either. Hmmmmm.... going to have to check out the websites listed. DH will probably think I am nutso, but it sounds like such a neat idea!
