Baby Shower....

grandma wrote: OMG! My sil and I went to Babies R Us last night to buy a combined gift for my coursin's dil's baby shower. We printed the Registry out and it was like 10 pages.
We wanted to get a 'mannish' diaper bag and fill it with baby stuff. We were planning on spending $100. We ended up being very happy with our wrapped gift!

OMG...I never dreamed outfitting a newborn could be so time consumming/expensive. You girls have to have so much baby stuff, it is just unreal! If you are anywhere from 30 on up, believe me...your mom didn't have 1/3 of what you require nowadays.

The thing that did us in was the "Pacifier Pod"...WTH? rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif

luvmykids replied: I only had kids six years ago, and the new stuff just since then is mind boggling laugh.gif

I have NO idea what a pacifier pod is wacko.gif but now I have to go look rolling_smile.gif

Your gift sounds great thumb.gif

CantWait replied: I hear ya, 12 years ago when I had Robbie, there definetly wasn't the amount of stuff there is now.

Brias3 replied: Gift does sound great, and yes, I agree. I feel that there are so many new products, even from when I last had a baby, its nuts!

grandma replied:
Thanks! We got the man diaper bad becuz it's my cousin's son that's gonna be the daddy. Oh and one thing we put in there was a cloth big bib:
"Call 1-800-Grandma" (that was for my cousin) thumb.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: yep things change all the time, and if I ever had another I would not have nearly all the crud I had before, to much stuff never got used.

okay what is a pacifier pod?

grandma replied:
It's a little plastic/vinyl case, with a purse like little strap and it hooks wherever you wnat; diaper bag, stroller, jeans. It holds the pacifier and it comes in different patterns (to match your decore) $7.99.

holley79 replied: Things have totally changed even in the last couple of years. wacko.gif

MoonMama replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif Braedin had a Pacifier Pod. emlaugh.gif My mom said the same thing as I was buying it. emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

Celestrina replied: The thing that always cracked me up was the diaper wipe warmer. Like a slightly cold wipe will give them frostbite. They always made me nervous; a warm, dark, moist place seems like a breeding ground for some microorganisms.

grandma replied:
Now how could any baby live without one of those? lol

MoonMama replied:
I'm glad you realize this. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif tongue.gif

lisar replied: The 4 years between my kids I was amazed at the things they came out with that I didnt have with the older one. It is amazing.

sparkys2boys replied: It is amazing at the stuff nowadays!! I think some strollers are more like luxury cruisers when I see them wacko.gif

grandma replied: Did anyone have the Moses Basket? They are really cute, but man $100 for a woven laundry basket wacko.gif
How long do you use them, like to 3/4 months?

Celestrina replied:
Huh? Never heard of it.

grandma replied:
Really they are woven with carrying straps the size of an oval laundry basket, really cute but expensive.

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Yeah the crap they have for babies is unreal, and unnecessary. All I'd need for a new baby would be to sew up some cute & adorable diapers & so soft, squishy wipes for the NB baby bottom. I have clothes, a carseat, a bed (ours), a few slings, and an awesome set of breasts that babies love rolling_smile.gif . What more do you need?

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
Don't need it. Those are too expensive, and you can't even use them that long.

I don't understand the need to spend mega $$$ for stuff that won't be used for very long. Maybe I'm too frugal.

Celestrina replied: Here's the one that killed me when I was pg: Coach Diaper Bag $398 for a diaper bag!

grandma replied:
I agree if you can't use it for more than 6 months, do you really have to have it?
We got alot of essential things that the baby needs; diaper bag, spoons, cups, bibs, snack bowls, pacifiers, pacifier pod (ofcourse lol), infant gloves, taggie book and the baby first medi kit....
This is her first baby and they don't want to know the sex.

luvmykids replied: Ok, the paci pod is cracking me up rolling_smile.gif No offense to anyone who had/has them, they are cute....but back in the day a paci just went in a ziplock bag in the diaper bag emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

bawoodsmall replied:
lol!! laugh.gif I used that for a while with Em. I didnt want her butt to be cold. Aiden had to deal with the cold butt. Funny how after the first one you are like...uh that is such a waste.

grandma replied:
Back-back in the day, we didn't have ziplock bags....lol

I love the Coach Diaper Bag, maybe it is really met for grandma rolling_smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied: OMG Pacifier pod??? yeah all i need for this baby is clothes and a few more things wink.gif I pretty much already have everything.. oh except a sling I need one of those.. and I can't sew... sooo rolleyes.gif

Celestrina replied:
When I was pg the one they had was leather and (I think) went for the same price. My mom and I were at Motherhood Maternity and got a knock-off (vinyl of course) that looked exactly like it. It was a fraction of the price and even came with the changing pad.

grandma replied: My X-Evil DIL had a Juicy Coutour diaper bag.....she had a designer purse addiction. emlaugh.gif

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
What kind of sling would you like to get? I can help you find one if you want.

Calimama replied:
Does it come in pink?? ph34r.gif Now I wish Miabella took a pacifier.

Anyway I love all that stuff! We have diaper warmers, diaper holders, portable baby bottle warmers, pacifiers with rhinestones on it (which she never used by the way dry.gif ).. you get the point. DH had baby experience and so we knew we didn't need all that stuff, but oh well. She's spoiled and we've accepted it. emlaugh.gif

grandma replied: "She's spoiled and we've accepted it."

lol, sounds like you went to a support group for help with that! Cute!

Calimama replied:
No, it's just to avoid the flack I might catch for it. rolling_smile.gif

grandma replied:
That's right, just get it out there before anyone else suggests it.....lol

A&A'smommy replied:
whatever is the most comfortable tongue.gif

My2Beauties replied: I have one of those wipe warmer thingies and it's a joke...it dried out all of my wipes rolleyes.gif They weren't even moist. They were also actually sort of hot to the touch. I didn't use it very long. rolleyes.gif Glad I got it at my baby shower and I didn't buy it myself. laugh.gif

Calimama replied:
A lot of people said that. Mine worked though!

My2Beauties replied:
I think it depends on the type of wipes you use, because it didn't dry them all out completely...but they still felt too hot IMHO.

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
I'd recommend a Moby Wrap or a ring sling. It's hard to know what you'd like though, since there's so many different types.

Calimama replied:
Yeah that makes sense. Mine never got too hot but you know I never really used it much. I didn't want to get one for every room and I don't change her diaper JUST in her room, KWIM? Oh well, we have it for the next one.
