luvbug00 replied: LUCKY!!!!
booey2 replied: You are soo lucky, I thought a year was great. I wanna move to Quebec now, but it won't help us cus I think we are done with babies.
kimberley replied: that's great!
A&A'smommy replied: WOW that is SOOO cool!!! It is paid too isn't it?
DansMom replied: That rocks!!!
booey2 replied: I know in Ontario you get almost 60% of what you were earning before you go on Mat. leave.
MomToMany replied: Holy Moly, that is TERRIFIC!!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Paid.... well it`s 55% of your salary, paid by the government (employment insurance). When I worked AT the government, it was 55% paid by emplyment insurance, and 38% topped up by my job. SO I got 93% of my salary, whereas now, I only get 55%.
Sunflower04 replied: Wow - that is awesome.
amynicole21 replied: I think I'd have 6 or 7 kids if I lived in Canada
Hillbilly Housewife replied: ROFL!!!
You need 13 consecutive weeks of work prior to giving birth to get the emplyment insurance though....
booey2 replied: I live up here and in the big city of Toronto, we both work and can't afford to have 6 or 7 but would love to if money were no object. Right now we are happy and content with our lovely two young men.
moped replied: WOW - that is wicked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3xsthefun replied: That is great!
CantWait replied: holy whoa that's amazing. WTG!!!!!!!
Marie_S replied: That is great news. 70 weeks is great. I live in Ontario and I am slowly using up the rest of my mat benefits. I was on sick leave though for 15 weeks prior to giving birth to Branden and then I get the standard 52 weeks or something like that so I run out of mat benefits in dec05. I also just learned that after mat benefits are over if I don't have a job to return to then I can immediately apply for regular EI benefits until I can find a fulltime job. Canada is great for giving mom's and dads time at home with their babies.
coasterqueen replied: Same here! I know I could convince DH to have a third if I got paid 55% of my pay to SAH.
Kaitlin'smom replied: thats great
I would have loved to have that kinda of time off and 55% would have been good
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: DH has been talking of moving to Canada lately. Mostly because he is a flaming Democrat. But wow, I was only able to afford 6 weeks after Logan was born. With his heart surgery, I needed to get back to work and make some money. That is VERY cool.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: That was going to be my question...is it paid?? Because here in Colorado, we get twelve weeks but ALL unpaid!! I have a friend who got paid a small percentage of her salary, but no law here says that your company has to pay anything. It makes me so mad! I worked up until my due date and had to BEGGGGGGGGGGGG my employer to pay me my vacation time that I had earned!
Congrats and enjoy!
jacobsmama replied: Very Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had this much time off!!!
gr33n3y3z replied: Oh thats great news I'm so happy for you
amynicole21 replied: We've looked into moving there... there is a long waiting list
coasterqueen replied: There's a waiting list to move to Canada?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: No!!! rofl!
coasterqueen replied: I guess I just didn't get the joke then.
booey2 replied: I think there may be a waiting list for entry Visa's. I know my neighbours sister is having a hard time moving down to the states to be with her fiance.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: more accurate...
There`s no waiting list to move to Canada... the joke was that EVERYONE wants to get in....
You do need a 'permit' though, to work here, so to speak. Same way that if i wanted to move to the states, I`d need a 'visa' to work. (not the credit card, just btw... )
A cousin of DH`s moved to Ohio not long ago to be with her online boyfriend (now her hubby and father of her unborn child), but she was born in the states by canadian parents, so she had dual citizenship to begin with, no problems for her.
coasterqueen replied: Yeah I knew you needed a visa because DH works with a guy from Canada. He was telling us people are anxious to get OUT of Canada, though, lol. So I wasn't aware people are anxious to move there.
Besides here, I only know what he's told us about Canada, though. He says he's on cloud nine because of our health care (we have pretty good health care at DH's work), cheaper cigs and alcohol and he says he's RICH now that he lives in US and he's paid less than he was there. Strange.
