At what age did your child start wiping their own - BUTT?
Crystalina wrote: Evan will be 5 in Aug. and he doesn't even try. I'm kinda scared to let him. I don't remember wiping Bella's butt much after about her first year of potty training. I mean I always checked her but she's pretty much spot on. Evan goes in there and he yells, "I'm Dooooooooone." I'm wondering what he's going to do when he starts school all day. Is 4 too old to be having your butt wiped?
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Kayla is 4 and I still wipe her butt .
DillsMommy replied: Umm...dylan will be 6 next month and I still help him out once in a while. It just doesn't get clean enough if I don't. KWIM?
stella6979 replied: Hmmm....unfortunately I don't have any advice but I do think he should at least be trying to do it himself. Best of luck to ya!
Crystalina replied: I don't feel so bad now. I just don't remember teaching Izabella. She just did it. Evan is so sloppy that I'm really scared to try and teach him. The boy has man poop now though and it's not pleasant.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Well, Tanner is 5 and still needs help sometimes. It really depends. He has always had "bowel" issues, so it's not a matter of him trying to wipe himself, it's just that sometimes he doesn't get it all so I have to do a butt check. He also has a nasty habit of leaving "poop confetti" on the floor when he doesn't pay attention to what he is doing.
holley79 replied: Annika refuses to let me wipe her. She does really well since I got her those wet wipe thingys for big kids.
Crystalina replied: So will we forever be poop checkers? Ugh, Boys!
Crystalina replied: I've gotten those for Evan. The Kandoo's. They don't seem to help him. He has tried before without me knowing and it wasn't pretty.
DillsMommy replied: so they do work? I thought about getting Dylan some. Just don't want him to think they are baby wipes like his brother uses.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Yep. Looks like it.
We use the wet wipes too yet because the regular toilet paper just doesn't cut it on his raunchy bottom. He seems to be fine at school though, which is a blessing. But...then he gets the skid marks, and...well...you know how that goes.
Boo&BugsMom replied: OK...this is probably WAY too much info...but I will humbly admit that I have used them a couple times myself. YES, they work great!
Crystalina replied: OH yes. Gotta love those skid marks.
Crystalina replied: I get them also! We get the Charmin brand for the grown ups.
mckayleesmom replied: Russell is 3 and Mckaylee is 5 and they both wipe their own. They wouldn't let me if I tried. I just taught them as I potty trained them.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I haven't graduated that far yet. I'm still on the Parent's Choice for Toddlers. They're only 97 cents per pack.
coasterqueen replied: Kylie was 3.5 or 4 when she started doing it. It was easier at first because we used the wet wipes, but then we quickly found out why our septic system was clogged up so out they went. Kylie, for some odd reason, still at age 5.5 has issues. She wipes herself and I've taught her how to wipe, but her front region gets really red and irritated looking and I'm wondering if she's wiping back to front. She says she's not and when I see her go I don't see her do that. Maybe she's wiping the front too hard or something. Who knows.
Megan is 3 and wipes #1. She is more independent on the bathroom issue and just goes and doesn't tell us until she's done and then she tells us she's gone #2 and wiped herself. We then have to quickly take her back and re-wipe her because she didn't do a good job (or a job at all ). So we are still doing it for her. She's so tiny she about falls in every time - she can't balance herself on the toilet, so it's hard for her to hold onto the seat and try to wipe her behind as well.
Crystalina replied: I can't even get even to shake for #1. He shakes his butt instead.
kit_kats_mom replied: Lauren still calls me everytime "wipe my buns peas...and my bah-gina"
K is 5 and she does it on her own and has for awhile now. Of course, today I got called in to the bathroom for a "messy poop"
Danalana replied: Oooooh, I didn't know about the shaking thing.
My2Beauties replied: OMG I posted something just like this in the 4-8 forums...Hanna is 4 1/2 and she does try now but I'm still leery of her wiping her own butt! LOL!
holley79 replied: I do as well. Glad to know I'm not alone. I buy Annika the parent's choice ones also. We have sewer but at this point I don't care. If she uses TP then it like sticks in her butt crack.
My3LilMonkeys replied: My kids have wiped their own from day 1. Madison tries to talk me into doing it for her occasionally but that's it.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I never wiped either of my kids. They wouldn't let me. They are way too independent. I never even know when they've gone to the bathroom. Unless of course Ethan forgets to flush.
mckayleesmom replied: McKaylee and Ethen are soulmates....Mckaylee will flush pee...but she always leaves the poop...
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil is just now learning how at 3.5. He will be four in August. It's gross though. And I always make sure he washes his hands good because he really isn't coordinated. I don't think there is a set age on this though. Just keep convincing him that he can do it himself and he will get it. Maybe getting baby wipes instead of TP will help since they are easier to maneuver (you know, slippery).
gr33n3y3z replied: Never had to worry about my kids they always wiped their own butts I always looked at it this way they have to learn to do it themselves I will not be with them all the time.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Andrew will do it himself sometimes, but honestly at this point I would rather he let me do it - he doesn't do as good of a job as I do. We have the toddler wipes too and I usually wipe him and then have him do it himself too so he's in the habit.
And he does the shaking thing for #1 - I think Dh taught him. It doesn't do a whole lot of good though when he does it.
Crystalina replied: Oh not me. I'm a PPP (Paranoid Poop Parent). Ever since the E-coli with my neice I have told them if their poo looks weird to tell me. Of course we've never had a problem but I want to be aware and also have them aware (or paranoid like me ) that they need to at least be aware. Bloody stool is one of the first signs of it and it's not painful so I just have them check for anything odd.
