Ashley fell... what should I look for?

MommyToAshley wrote: Ashley fell off the monkey bars today and landed flat on her back. Her feet didn't hit first, her back hit first.... she hit the lower part of her back on the ground. I was watching, and as soon as I saw her get on the monkey bars, I started going towards her but didn't make it in time. (She knows she's not permitted to do the monkey bars unless I am standing right beside her, but her excuse is her friend told her to do it -- we'll deal with that punishment later).

Anyways, when it first happened, she was trying to cry but couldn't cry right. She couldn't catch her breath at first, but was ok breathing after a few minutes. Then she was crying normal (I think she had the wind knocked out of her). About 5 minutes after it happened, she said her stomach hurt. So, I was going to take her to be check out. But, then she said her stomach didn't hurt anymore. It's not sore if I push on it anywhere. She seems fine now, just says her back hurst sometimes, and I can see where it is going to bruise. She can reach down and touch her toes, reach up in the air, etc. It's been a few hours and she seems like she is back to normal. But, is there anything else I should watch for?

Crystalina replied: Wow, I think it's hard to tell. She may seem fine yet still have a problem and then again she could just be fine. dunno.gif Maybe you should just take her just in case so you can have piece of mind. I would have to do that because I would be worried all night and have to check on her a million times. I hope it's nothing. Give her a hug. hug.gif But not too tight. wink.gif

holley79 replied: She def had the wind knocked out of her. I would just watch her. Heating pads, some pain reliever and ice will probably be the best bet. Have you called the pedi just to check to see what they say?

A&A'smommy replied: hug.gif if its been a few hours then I'm sure she is fine hug.gif I hate monkey bars they scare me SO bad!!

MommyToAshley replied:
I tried calling the ped, but it's been busy. That's unusual for our office, I can normally get through.

holley79 replied:
How long ago was the fall and how is she right now? does she say her back is really sore or is it sharp pains?

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yikes! hug.gif

I remember doing that so many times as a child. I'm okay...well, sort of. blush.gif

She should be fine. Just keep an eye on her. She may be a little sore tomorrow.

MommyToAshley replied: I was finally able to reach ped. They just said to keep an eye on her-- if any symptoms get worse, then to take her in right away. If she is not better by Friday, then I am to take her in to have it checked out. I think she'll be fine, she is already feeling better than when it first happened. I'm just such a big worry-wart. Thanks everyone. hug.gif

lovemy2 replied: Poor Ashely - I hate when things like that happen and you literally watch it all happen - Olivia did the same thing off the monkey bars - hasn't been on them since wink.gif I would just keep an eye on her - motrin and maybe some ice - not heat..... hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif to Ashley - and you too Mommy hug.gif hug.gif

Calimama replied: Poor girl. I hope she's not in too much pain. hug.gif hug.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
Yup, that's what the ped said, motrin and ice.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: hug.gif hug.gif Poor Ashley, I hope everything will be okay! hug.gif hug.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: It'll probably be really sore tomorrow but that wouldn't alarm me too much, that's just normal. Poor girl...I hate having the wind knocked out of me, that's so scary! Give her a nice hot bath and Motrin before bed, that might help the soreness in the morning.

DVFlyer replied: How high was the bar? And what kind of surface did she land on?

MoonMama replied: Oh no! Poor baby, sad.gif I hope she feels all better fast and isn't in too much pain. Let us know how she is doing. hug.gif hug.gif
