Apple Dumplings - Yum

amynicole21 replied: I don't know how to make dumplings, but a quick fix is to head over to KFC - their apple pies are to die for. Deep-fried yummy goodness The Wing Street ones from Pizza Hut are really good, too.

colinandtracy replied: When I had our daughter, becasue I was high risk we had to go the big city (Ottawa Canada), an hour from our little town, and the food was AMAZING !!! They feed me fish (i dont do fish) and it was great, hubby ate downstairs at the cafe for 5 days and said it was very good....Then we came home and it was like what.......I have to cook ??? LOL

amymom replied: I went to allrecipes.com and did a search. They came up with what look like some pretty easy to make dumplings. I may go and buy some apples and give this a try tomorrow.

Syrup:
2 cups water
2 cups brown sugar
2 tablespoons margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
Dash salt

Dumplings:
1-1/4 cups flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons shortening
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup milk

You need a pot with a lid... mix the syrup stuff in the pan, bring to a boil on medium heat. While it's heating, mix the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Cut in the shortening, until the mixture resembles very coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the sugar over the flour mixture and mix briefly. Stir in the milk, making a soft dough. Take small balls of dough (marble sized) and drop them into the gently boiling brown sugar syrup. Fill the entire pan with these small dough balls. After iut's all done, put the lid on. Simmer the mixture over medium-low heat for about 15 to 20 minutes.

They should be nice and fluffy. They are for me! SOOOO good!

Serve with a big spoonful of their syrup... and some ice cream if you have it.. serves about 6.

I suppose you could chop up some apples to put in them...it'd be like caramel apples.
