Anyone watching the debate?

Kentuckychick wrote: This is painful.

jem0622 replied: It seems very ad hoc. I miss Tim Russert!

kit_kats_mom replied: Nah, I'm watching this really lame mud wrestling contest. There's no wrestling though, the guys are just throwing mud clods at each other....wait a minute....I am watching the debate. blink.gif

Kentuckychick replied:
LMAO! That's made me just about spit my coke out!

Agreed. This is ridiculous.

Although I think Obama wins this one... McCain keeps trying to play the sympathy with his storytelling ability.

luvmykids replied: I watched, and thought it was ok. Mainly I wanted DH to watch because he always asks me questions about the candidates and I don't want to bias him wink.gif

Crystalina replied: I MISSED IT????? huh.gif ohmy.gif

Dang it! I hope YouTube will have it. bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif

ZandersMama replied: i watched it late last nite. excruciating i think describes it best.

luvbug00 replied: i was more interested in the CNN focas groups they had. with the chart at the bottom showing what each group thought of the senitors responces. it was interesting to see where the groups agree and disagree and where the independants stand. very interesting.. happy.gif

Crystalina replied: I only watched a few about 15 minutes of it and it just bothers me how JM can't even look at Obama or even in his direction. He looks like a puppy being whipped. Let's just say you totally ignore any words that are being said....use only the body language...he looks very insecure about what he's saying. He looks like a little boy being scolded. huh.gif He doesn't seem very sure of himself that's for sure.

luvmykids replied:
The media actually thought opposite, they read it as arrogant and condescending that he wouldn't look at O while talking to him.

I don't think either of them turned in stellar performances, I hope the next one is a little more exciting.

Kentuckychick replied:
I saw a little of both. And I've typically been a fan of McCain... but last night's performance in my honest opinion was disgraceful. He told stories, tossed out big names, interupted constantly and generally didn't even answer his questions. Not that Obama did a stellar job... but rating the two... I'd say Obama was far classier.

And yeah... he would not address Obama at all. I found that disturbing. And even when Obama was able to throw out points of praise and agreeance towards McCain, he rebounded with negativity and nasty remarks. wacko.gif

Danalana replied: Yall must have watched a different debate than I read about. The analysts rated them on poise, knowledge and likeability, and they actually are even (according to them). John McCain even got a 5.0 (that being the highest score on the scorecard--and the only one given) for knowledge. LOL, I didn't see it, and I'm thinkin yall didn't either tongue.gif <-------Notice the tongue.gif If you are offended, you will have to talk to my father, who is JM. The funny thing is, my father's initials really are JM emlaugh.gif Wow, I'm bored.

Kentuckychick replied:
5 for knowledge and what... .5 for likeability?? tongue.gif

I thought he was obnoxious. But yeah... if telling stories about the good ole days and throwing out the big names of other country leaders means you have knowlegdge... well okay.

I would say they were about even for their knowledge... but Obama was far classier in the way he presented it.

Danalana replied: Obama, schmobama.
LOL, that's fun to say!

ETA: I've been saying I would like to see Palin and Obama debate...maybe that would have been better.

Kentuckychick replied:
I don't know... after the interview I saw her do with Katie Couric where she talked about (or better attempted in a really dim-witted fashion) to talk about her foreign policy with Russia... I think my head would explode.

jcc64 replied: Here was my impression of the debate:
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I don't think anyone emerged "victorious", and I certainly didn't learn or hear anything that hasn't already been said ad nauseum throughout this endless campaign.
I did think it was strange that McCain refused to look Obama in the eyes- not sure what that was all about, but if anything, it made him look a little childish. I didn't listen to the pundits b/c I don't like being told what to think. And I thought that chart at the bottom of CNN was asinine- I switched to a different channel to get away from it.
Imo, I thought McCain came off as very knowledgable about foreign policy; even though I don't agree with his policies, at least he sounds like he has a brain in his head, unlike the current admininstration. Obama sounded way more on top of the monumental economic disaster, while McCain seems to be playing catch up to the regulation bandwagon. All in all, nothing gained, nothing learned.

Danalana replied: I wish I had known it was on!

luvmykids replied: Jeanne, I really agree with you, I didn't hear anything new. I think it's hard to call a "winner" unless someone REALLY flubs, the debates IMO are more for those still on the fence.

Crystalina replied: I watched a bit more of it now and McCain comes off as a cranky old man and the whole "not looking at O" is just ridiculous. What was he trying to prove? Obama is his opponent and he earned that spot. At least look at the guy and act like you give a crap. rolleyes.gif He showed no respect and although Obama pointed out issues and faced him on it he also gave respect and acknowledgment where it was due. That shows a lot of class to me. I would want our next president to be able to look down his opponents face then to look at his feet. What will McCain do when he has to go head to head with someone threatening us? He's running for President for goodness sake he ought to at least "act" presidential. rolleyes.gif
