Anyone have this happen?
Maddie&EthansMom wrote: Years ago we signed up with the Dish Network. At the time I only got 2 recievers b/c we didnt' need a third. They told me to call back and add a third when I was ready and there wouldn't be a charge...just $5/month on my bill. Now that we have the study (almost) ready we need to add a reciever. I called Dish and they said "Since you own your equipment (satellite and recievers) you will need to contact the person who installed the equipment." They gave me the name of this person and he called me back today and told me he couldn't help me, either. They won't let him add anything to our acct. I called Dish back and they said it's b/c they have no promotions available for current customers. He said "You can purchase your own equipment (DVR), but you will have to find a retailer...we can't rent it to you."
So, I cancelled my service and switched to cable I'm so peeved with Dish anyway. I haven't been happy with my service, really. I'm paying A LOT LESS with the cable company and I'm getting A LOT MORE. A lot more channels...2 movie channels...a DVR on one TV for the same price I was paying with Dish. (this is actually a special they run for people who switch from Dish to their service)
Should have done this a long time ago.
jacobsmama replied: That sucks! We got Dish Network in August and we pay alot less now than we did with regular cable. But DH tends to buy PPV crap and so that ads more to dumb bill!
I also only got 2 recievers but will need a 3rd one when our upstairs is done and now I wish I would have just had them give me a 3rd one even though I didn't need it.
Why do you have to call the person who installed it I thought they worked for dish? Very confusing!
Glad that you are getting a better deal!
coasterqueen replied: Yep, this is exactly why Dh left Dish and went to Cable. He wanted their new DVR and they said we'd have to purchase it since we were an existing customer and it was over a grand. So Dh canceled immediately and went with cable. I LOVE the interface better on Dish, but I've gotten used to Cable and actually like a lot more of their features that we didn't have on Dish.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Well we have DirecTv so I really know nothing about Dish - but my SIL has added 3 receivers to her DirecTv account in the last year or so. Twice she didn't have to pay anything but the extra monthly charge (they were running specials) but the third time she had to pay I think $50 for the receiver b/c there was no special going on at the time.
Glad you're liking your cable though!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: It was actually a TV place..so they were a Dish retailer. Instead of them renting the equipment to me (like Dish would have done if I'd have called them directly) they sold it to me. So, Dish can't rent me any additional equipment since I'm not currently renting from them.
This is how I understood it, anyway. If I would have known this to begin with, I would have gone thru Dish directly. A lesson is learned.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Isn't that strange? The cable company doesn't charge a thing for the DVR. They don't even have an installation fee. The guy who installed my Dish told me he would have to charge $100 for an extra reciever and $50 more for the DVR!
We had cable before we went with Dish and we actually like this particular company better than Dish...not sure WHY we switched in the first place.
jacobsmama replied: Ahhh...I see now
Crystalina replied: We have no choice but to have satelite out here and DishNetwork is who we went to. We went to Radio Shack and bought all of our equipment and then my sis got Dishnetwork when she moved out of town and she was offered the DVR. I called and said that I wanted it and they would not give me the same deal they gave her because I was already a customer. What a load of crap. It would cost me over $300 just for the DVR and then I'd still have to pay for the extra service. What a way to treat your ALREADY cuctomers! Needless to say we still don't have it and we also still have Dishnetwork because that's all they offer.
luvmykids replied: Did you get your equipment from Dish in the first place? We upgraded twice in the last few years, they've always just sent us new receivers and boxes to send the old ones back for a $50.00 credit for each, we didn't have to send them back but did.
CosmetologyMommy replied: I am surprised they did not accommodate to you when you tried to switch. Usually they do not want anyone to switch.
3xsthefun replied: That sucks!
We have Dish and have not had much trouble with them. We have been using them for 7 years. We can't get cable since we don't live in town.
JP&KJMOM replied: We have had Dish for about 3 years and have had our good and bad things. We actually got 3 receivers in the beginning but one of them has an antenna and runs 2 different tv's just like having 2 receivers. My biggest complaint has been when we moved they charged us $99 just to come out and hook it back up when the saleman told us they move it for free. Naturally the jerk that we bought it from was no longer in business.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: We really don't like Dish Network either. They never offer good updates for there existing customers. A year ago we upgraded to dish 500 and thought that we would get a new box, but nope all they did was put an extra reciever on the dish. So we called and they said we had to pay $100.00 dollars to buy the new box. Well we are going to wait until the year contract is up and switch to Direct T.V. I talked to the guy that installed our dish and he said now you can get the DVR for $50.00, but we want another box for the kitchen. Who knows how much that would cost.
