Anyone have a lazy eye?

coasterqueen wrote: Does anyone here have a lazy eye? And what can be done about it?

I've noticed over the past few years that my right eye looks "lazy". My left eye looks WIDE open and the right looks semi-opened. Dh keeps telling me there's nothing wrong but I've been noticing it worse lately.

Elle replied: I've never heard of that, but I'd go to the eye doctor and have it checked, especially since you noticed it's getting worse. unsure.gif

momof2girls replied: I would go to the eye dr to just make sure!!!

amynicole21 replied: I think treatment usually involves an eye patch over the "good" eye so that you can strengthen the muscle of the lazy eye. You probably wouldn't have to wear it all the time... but I'm not sure.

Ahoy there, me hardy! rolling_smile.gif

LOL! Oh great, that doesn't sound like an appealing treatment. I wonder why my doctor never caught it before. If it's not a lazy eye I've got one freaky problem. I've always noticed in pictures that one eye looks like it's so wide open it freaks me out but I think it's because the other eye looks "lazy". Who knows? rolleyes.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
My left eye kind of does that a little too. (My vision in my left eye is slightly worse than the vision in my right eye as well) It's kind of like the eyelid doesn't open completely. It is very slight and not easy to notice, although DH did notice it. For us, it is genetic... my mom and grandma's eye does the same thing so I never asked about it. But, I didn't know it was called lazy eye. I thought lazy eye was when one of your eyes (the iris and pupil) wanders or doesn't follow an object, but I could be wrong.

coasterqueen replied: Oh I don't know I always thought it was called a lazy eye because the lid kinda droops a bit.

5littleladies replied: M2A is right. A lazy eye is when one of your eyes wanders. I have a friend who has one-You can be looking at him and one of his eyes will be looking at you and the other is looking somewhere else. tongue.gif I have what you have. My right eyelid is droopier than the left. It's especially noticable on me when I have a cold. I have one now and I can't stand to look at myself in the mirror because I look ridiculous. rolleyes.gif

jolene555 replied: right, a lazy eye and a wandering eye are the same thing. it's where one eye is "looking" somewhere else. my mother had a reoccuring condition called "bell's paulsey" (sp?) where the muscles on one side of her face would go numb and limp. it wasn't chronic, but it would be that one day she would wake up with a drooped lip and her eye mostly closed.

there are variations of bells, ranging in severity. now, my mom has (so far) always recovered. there is a chance of permanant "droopieness", if untreated.

so, i would most definately have it checked out, especially if you notice it getting worse.

MommyToAshley replied: I just thought I would mention that Ashley's eye does the same thing. If you look in the picture in my siggy, you can see it. It isn't real noticeable, but it's there. wink.gif

coasterqueen replied:
OMG! I've noticed Kylie's eye is a bit droopy on one side too. Dh still doesn't notice it but I notice it when I look at some of her pics for sure!

Kaitlin'smom replied: as I was reading this, I noticed it Kylie, so I guess its genetic. If it bothers you have yoru eyes checked to make sure its nothing there, then head for a doc to see if you can do something for it
