Anyone have a baby that grab or pinches...
MommyToAshley wrote: Ashley used to hold my boob like she was drinking from a bottle when she would nurse, but lately she has been diggin in with her nails. OUCH. I keep her nails cut, but it doesn't matter...she really digs in. Anyone else have a baby that does that?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: ROFL!
Zach doesn't breastfeed, but when he is sitting on me or DH, and he wants to stand, he twists and grabs our arms/shoulder/whatever-he-gets-his-hands-on... and PULLS! His little nails are sharp, little bugger!!
He's also taken to trying to pinch our noses when we are playing with him... he thinks it's funny when we yell Ouch!
supermom replied: Pinch, turn, twist, poke, slap, "milk" (like a cow!).....you name it, Anders does it...... I do tell him that it hurts mommy and usually he quits for at least a little bit. Mainly he does it when he is fighting sleep and doesn't want to go for a nap or to sleep for the night.
I know Anders is a bit older than the "normal" nurser, but I think that you can, with some "conditioning" explain to the little ones that it DOES hurt when they do that....like you said in regards to something else, they understand a lot more than you think they do!
And I don't know how Ashley feels about gloves (mittens) but if she gets really bad, you could try putting those on when she nurses.....I know of someone who used that as a last resort and it worked like a charm.
MomToMany replied: Hannah does this, too! OUCH! It hurts SO bad! She also stands on her head, upside down, you name it! She does that when she just wants to have a little fun, like after nap-time or something. Here's some links on why they do this:

HTH!
Schnoogly replied: Yes Iain does this. I try to get him to hold onto my finger instead of clawing my boob. My poor boobs look like they've been in a catfight though, all scratched up.
And yay for you supermom for nursing your toddler! So few women do this.
Steph
MommyToAshley replied: That's what I do too. Sometimes she will do that and sometimes that just makes her mad and she starts flappin the arms around.
dhoppygirl replied: Peyton does this too...I usually give him my bra strap to play with or a blanket to entertain his hands...
My boobs have looked like that..and sometimes they have bruises when Peyton has fallen asleep and keeps eating...but has missed the nipple!
MommyToAshley replied: Mollie -- Thanks for the links. Interesting reading!
supermom replied: Dear Steph: Thanks!! I have only had one person EVER make a negative comment, and *they* didn't have the guts to say it to my face, they left a note on a napkin on the windshield of my car. It *had* to have been someone who knows me, too, because it was at a local Football game. Good thing to, or else I would have had a thing or two to say back......
MommyToAshley replied: Thanks, but she won't keep them on her hands. Heck, she even takes her diaper off...LOL.
And, Supermom, I think it's great that you still nurse Anders as well
momofajcl replied: Nicholas doesn't really dig into my boobs...he likes to sometimes grab the underneath part of my arm though...the tricep area where there is some chicken-flappy skin. LOL! He will grab a fistfull of my arm and that hurts a lot. He also likes to grab my necklace a lot. I should probably be smart and take the thing off until he out-grows grabbing it.
Joannerobinm replied: Alex is a pincher. He has also given me a hickey when neither of us was paying attention and he fell off. Ouch!
supermom replied: Yeppers, I think that's got a lot to do with it - since my DH is from Sweden, he is a LOT more supportive of the whole thing than my XH ever was - my XH was modest enough for the both of us and it used to really bother him when I fed the babies in public - It doesn't bother Eje at all!! (thank goodness, since I don't WANT to quit!!)
casmi replied: Olivia is a pincher, squeezer, kneeder, and a twiddler. I try to give her something to occupy her hands. I have a nursing necklace, but she isn't interrested. What works best for her is a pacifier. She pinches and squeezes the nipple. LOL Better that than me!
MommyToAshley replied: LOL
When Ashley was waking up several times a night but wouldn't go back to sleep, the Ped recommended we get her a pacifier. She wouldnt take one when she was younger, but we thought we would try again. It did help, but not in the way it was intended...she mostly uses it to occupy her hands so she can fall asleep. LOL
