Any advice, I made a really stupid move

coasterqueen wrote: Dh convinced me to sell Kylie's nursery set on Ebay and what we made off of it we'd use to buy her new decor for her room. I said ok. Well I looked at all the items, made my list and put the auction out on ebay.

Well the auction is up tomorrow, getting several email questions and so I decided maybe I should get the thing boxed up right? rolleyes.gif

So I get ready to do so and notice the comforter which had ONLY ever hung on the wall and was dry-cleaned once before put up there....I found spots on it. I don't know what it is. So now I've got it in the washer on gentle hand wash cycle trying to see if I can get the spots out of it. unsure.gif I am praying I do get them out of it. What should I do? If they come out, do I say anything about having washed it? If they don't come out, what do I say? I can't believe I didn't look closer at it before putting the auction out there. sad.gif I would have tried to take it to the cleaner but it took me 10 days the last time for them to get it done (when I bought it 2 years ago). I don't have 10 days this time. It takes so long because they send it off to be done specially I guess. dunno.gif

ALSO there are a LOT of items in this auction. I never box anything up ahead of time. I just give an estimate of what it would cost, knowing I could eat the cost if I'm wrong. If I go over on my estimate I always reimburse the buyer. blush.gif I was just going to ship it via UPS this time and gave an estimated cost because I'm usually right with them on their costs. Well NOW I can't find a box BIG enough to put all the stuff in. sad.gif unsure.gif I found two smaller boxes and they only fit in there without wrapping everything up, so that's not going to work either. Guess I'll have to go buy a HUGE box. But where? rolleyes.gif unsure.gif

I REALLY did not have all my ducks in a row this time before putting this auction out there. blush.gif

Sorry just a small vent.

mckayleesmom replied: Wait until someone wins and then email them and tell them what happened and how you found the spots...they might care and they might now. You can do that can't you?

superlydia replied: I would say email whoever wins and explain what happened. If they think it's a big deal offer to take off a few bucks. The worst that could happen is they back out and you would just havve to re-do your auction.

kimberley replied: i agree. email the winner your problem when the auction ends and let them decide if they still want it or not. i am sure a few tiny spots won't make a difference. if not, then just relist it.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: ITA with everyone ~ and then if the winner still wants it maybe you could offer to get it dry cleaned before you ship it and just explain that it might be an extra 10 days.
I hope it works out!

loveydad replied: I would bet the person who buys is it is someone who's just getting the baby's room ready and still has a few weeks - if nothing else - a lot of times people put baby in a basinett first - the crib set can go in last if everything else is ready. I would just apologize and tell them what happened.

GavinsMommy replied: Did you try Shout? I had something red on my crib set and used Shout and it came right out...and it was BADLY stained w/ whatever it was...but there are no traces of it whatsoever now.

I would explain what happened to the winning bidder also...

Mommy2BAK replied: I agree with the rest. Email the winner and tell them you would like to get the stuff dry cleaned as a nice gesture. wink.gif

redchief replied: You didn't represent the set as new, so some wear and tear has to be expected. In the interest of fair play and all, I'd email the winner with that information (assuming you were unable to remove the spots) and give the winner the opportunity to decide what he/she wants to do.

Good luck.

Josie83 replied: How frustrating! I agree, just be honest with the buyer I'm sure they'l understand xx

coasterqueen replied: Well I put the comforter on gentle hand wash cold cycle and the spots came out! YAHOO!!!!

But I guess I will have to email the winning bidder to let her know it has been washed not just dry-cleaned. I just didn't want to take the chance the dry cleaners couldn't get it out....they make me wonder sometimes tongue.gif and the cost to dry-clean it is outrageous.

Thanks everyone! Now to find a big enough box to put all this stuff in. rolleyes.gif

CCTandME replied: Any UPS store(I think that's what they are called) use to be Mailboxes Etc. should have a variety of boxers. Uhaul stores or any other moving company. Look in your local phone book.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Yes and UPS will pack it for you so no worries there! I took some bedding to the UPS store to ship and he packed it at no addtional charge. It really wasn't that expensive to ship it either. wink.gif

I'm so glad the spots came out! biggrin.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Hey thanks Amy I might just do that. I know Mailbox etc and others like that charge out the WAZOO to pack stuff and ship them but I didn't even think about taking it to UPS and see if they would do it.

We don't have a UPS store around here, but I'll find away to go all the way clear across town to the UPS shipping place to see if they will. Would definitely be worth it.

Thanks again!
