Another political question - What would you think of a split ticket?
luvmykids wrote: I'm curious....at first the thought bothered me but maybe it is a way to unify Congress? If either Obama or McCain picked a VP from the opposite party would it bother you? Or do you think it could be a good thing?
coasterqueen replied: You are brave Monica, with this question. My guess is those who would be in favor of it would only be in favor of it IF their president was of their political party.
I wouldn't mind it, BUT I have to admit I'd like it more if the president was of my party.
luvmykids replied: I figured it was one of those sooner or later questions since there have been rumors about it
coasterqueen replied: Another thought....at least if it was split maybe there would be some bipartisanship going on and people would not be so quick to place blame on one party or the other - or that's wishful thinking.
luvmykids replied: I think it could really wreck havoc on voting day....just using McCain for example, people who may have supported him may decide not to vote at all because they don't want a Dem VP and vice versa. BUT if it was the right combo of Pres/VP it might be another sort of checks and balances....It's hard for me to say though because I usually vote straight ticket like Aimee said and it might make me feel like it's taken that away, if that makes any sense.
I know my grandpa would rather have DIED than vote for the opposite party in any manner so I think he would have just not voted, that could be political suicide in times like this.
TheOaf66 replied: I still say it doesn't matter who gets Presidency, Congress and Senate pretty much decide everything. All these things Presidents say things they would like to do, the Congress for example is of the opposite party and they don't pass it through but people blame the prez. I think it is a crock. As long as my party controls the Senate and Congress then they could put Pee Wee Herman as the president.
luvmykids replied: Good point, but another reason a VP of the other party might be able to actually get some compromise to the table?
PrairieMom replied: I don't think straight ticket would work, since Rep. and Dem don't really seem to play together well, and Voters would have a really hard time on election day esp. the ones that vote straight ticket. I think a more fair way would be to use only the popular vote, the one with the most votes gets to be pres, the runner up gets to be vice pres, and have more than one person run per party.

lisar replied: I agree. I think this would be the best way to do it.
PrairieMom replied: Well then. That settles it.
To bad it could never happen.
coasterqueen replied: Here here. (agreeing with you )
