Americans... Ped Question...

mummy2girls wrote: I have read alot of you guys say wen you do stats of the kids that you see the ped and then get all the shots needed. Does the ped do it in the office? or do you go somewhere else to do it?

Boo&BugsMom replied:
In the office. Usually the nurse comes in to do it after he sees the ped., so the kids don't have horrible feelings against the pediatrician.

amynicole21 replied: They do it right then and there. Is it not like that in Canada?

Calimama replied: Our pediatrician is in the Naval Hospital on base, after her appointments we go across the hall and they have an infant immunization clinic where they do the actual shots. It has to be ordered over the phone which makes no sense it's right across the hall. tongue.gif

CantWait replied:
It is like that in some places in Canada, however not in others. For instance, when I lived in Ontario and now New Brunswick they do it right at the doctor's office, however when we lived in Alberta we go to a seperate place (pretty much an immunizationa and health care clinic to get all child and adult immunizations). Doctors there are for everything else.

skinkybaby replied: All at the same time in the dr's office. The nurse comes in and gets her stats, then the dr comes in ahd gives her a checkup and goes over everything with me, and then the nurse comes back in to give shots.

msoulz replied: We can take children to county health department to get free immunizations if we choose, but the doctors' offices do them too, you just have to pay the doc.

mummy2girls replied:
nope.. you have to go to a health clinic and a nurse does it. the ped has a diff office altogether...so its 2 diff appointments...and not always do you get to go to the ped and clinic in one day.. because of booking and such

coasterqueen replied:
This is exactly how ours are done.

IF we choose not to get the shots while visiting the PED, we can come back at another time to have the nurse do it for no charge. Well there's the regular charge for immuniations, but not an office visit charge.

CantWait replied:
Actually Shelly, that's just in Alberta, not all of Canada.

jacobsmama replied:
Ditto tongue.gif

ZandersMama replied: Wow. I'm in Canada, and my son was just done by the GP, our family doctor. And we dont even have a nurse in the office, just the Doc. tongue.gif

mummy2girls replied:
where in canada are you again?

ZandersMama replied:
in a very small town in Cape Breton, NS

redchief replied: Since my insurance covers immunizations we have the shots in the primary physician's office. All immunizations are also offered free at the county health dept.

moped replied: We don't pay at all for shots....but it is a seperate building and appointment - you guys pay??? This is all covered through provincial health care

Correct me if I am wrong, pretty sure that is right

coasterqueen replied:
No we don't pay for ours, they are covered by our insurance. But we do pay for our insurance.
