Alice in Wonderland

Hillbilly Housewife wrote: I took the kids to see this yesterday... awesome!

Naomie had a little trouble keeping the glasses on, because they're huge... but otherwise they were glued to the screen the whole time!

mummy2girls replied: they werent scared? i see previews and man it looks scarey for a child:(

DVFlyer replied: Ya, how old were the kids you took? I want to take Chloe, but I think it might be a little too dark for her (she's 6).

luvbug00 replied: mya went to see it with friends today. I saw it saterday. she saw it in three D. I can't it makes me nautious and so i saw it in regular. still good graphically ehh story wise in my opinion.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Zach is nearly 8 (in august), Emilie is 6, and Naomie is 4 1/2.

It really wasn't all that "dark"...

(Story wise, true, it was spotty. Very good graphics, though.)

coasterqueen replied: Kylie is begging me to see this! The previews made it seem to scary, but she thinks she'll be fine. Maybe it's because she thought Coraline was too scary and so I wouldn't let her see it - we finally watched it the other day and she admitted it wasn't too bad, so she is feeling brave. tongue.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: PS - it's not the "Alice in Wonderland" story as you know it.

mom21kid2dogs replied: Stephen & I went to see it this weekend with Olivia (9) and her friend (10). It is pretty dark. Both girls thought it was very scary (and we didn't even see it in 3D~thank goodness) and Olivia was on my lap in some parts. Both girls said they had nightmares/bad dreams about it. My husband LOVED it. I was very "underwhelmed" by it. The music and the graphics/special effects are great. The story was outright boring in parts.

Aside note: the kid in the row ahead of us (maybe 6?) thought it was hysterical. How your kid will react is likely based on whether they are bothered by strong visual images. This movie was far darker than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We just started letting Olivia watch that movie in the past year.

jcc64 replied:

Coraline WAS dark--I can't believe someone green-lighted that movie for kids. It was basically every kid's worst nightmare.
Dh took Corey to see Alice yesterday. She loved it. He thought it was so so. She didn't seem to be scared by it, but obviously it depends on your kid.

mckayleesmom replied: I cant wait to take mine....my kids don't scare easily at all......Mckaylee still thinks that gremlins are hillariously bad monkeys... rolling_smile.gif

Russell did have a nightmare about Gumby though....That was strange. He said that gumby was chewing all the kids faces off... laugh.gif

giantwaves replied: wow sounds like everyone had fun! I planned on seeing the movie but then looked at all the bad reviews about it and skipped on seeing it. I think I'll go ahead and watch it now smile.gif

coasterqueen replied:
You know it was dark, but it had a good message - if I got it correctly. tongue.gif

MommyToAshley replied: No way would I take Ashley to see it. She thought Princess and the Frog was scary.

coasterqueen replied:
ohmy.gif Really? My girls are scared of a lot of stuff, but they LOVED LOVED that movie.

my2monkeyboys replied: I want to see it, but not necessarily with the kids. smile.gif
We just watched Coraline the other night, and am wondering... did anyone else notice the nearly naked lady? The scene where the 2 old women were "performing," one of them had on nothing but a pair of tiny panties and pasties on her huge boobs. Kind of shocked me, although Will rolled laughing. I almost turned it off then, but figured he'd already seen it so...
Anyway, makes me wonder about ratings now-a-days. huh.gif

kimberley replied:
mine too.

coasterqueen replied:
Same here. I was FLOORED when I saw those ladies and almost turned it off then but decided not to. It went away pretty fast and girls didn't say a thing. I thought that was worse than the dark parts of the show. blush.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
Yes, she's very sensitive to what she sees and hears.

When she was younger, she was scared of Ursula and I had to fast forward past that part. WHen she saw Peter Pan, she had nightmares about crocodiles eating her feet. Just recently, she watched part of a documentary on Discovery channel with Rod about these hikers that were rescued. They were rescued by helicopter but it was a dangerous rescue because of the winds or something like that, but anyways, that night she had dreams of helicopter crashes. She went to see Princess and the Frog with a friend so not quite sure what she thought was scary.

She's also affected by the good stuff too. She'll giggle and laugh in her sleep. She'll eat popcorn and then dream that night that she's swimming in a big lake of popcorn.

I know not all kids are this way, but I feel that I have to still sensor what she watches if we want to get any sleep.

Sam & Abby's Mom replied:
Do you really think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is dark? I didnt think it was. Sam is 5 and Abby is 3-1/2 ---- they both have seen it and actually liked it. Abby did get scared when the girl blew up into the blueberry, though. LOL

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I took the girls to see Alice a couple of weeks ago and they really liked it. In fact I think that was the first movie Jordan has actually sat through without making a peep. She opted to watch it without the glasses because they are huge and would not stay on her face. To be honest it wasn't all that dark. We loved the movie smile.gif

sampaguita replied: I so effing love this movie. The characters, effects, story and everything were totally great! I've watched it twice and the other one was in #D and it was really awesome. Cool! biggrin.gif Great movie. Two thumbs up!
