Alexis's story
PrairieMom wrote: Alright, now that things have settled down a little I can let you all know what happened to poor Alexis this weekend.
Om Saturday Al woke up with a bit of a fever, about 101, and she was kinda crabby, but she gets that way when she is teething. We figured that was what her problem was and started alternating tylenol and motrin just like usual, and took the kids out to do their pictures. We took them to the park and played all morning. She was crabby, but I was forcing her to take pictures with a veil stuck in her hair, so I figured that was what her problem was.
We ate lunch and I put her down for a nap, and she slept for about 3 hours, pretty normal for her, but when she woke up she was super crabby. I gave her a bit of a snack, some more tylenol and when that didn't improve her attitude I put her back to bed. She was so crabby that I actually had to swaddle her again. I haven't had to do that for a few weeks.
I cooked dinner, then had to go wake her up to eat, which is pretty strange for her. when I went to pick her up she was sooooo hot! I took her temp with one of thise forehead thermometers and it said 105.something. I don't remember, I was basically in shock. Dh says when he took it it was 105.9. I tossed her in a warm bath to try to cool her down, gave her some motrin, and threw Benjamin in the van and we headed to acute care.
Her temp there was only 101. I had them re-do it 3 times. Even the Doc said that poor alexis felt hotter than that, maybe 103. Anyway, they took some blood, and sent us home with some antibiotics and told us to keep alternating the tylenol and motrin.
We went home, I tried to feed her something, but she wouldn't really eat. I gave her the med, an got everyone into bed. When things settled down I went into work.
I called DH at 10-ish to see how things were going and he wad frantic. Her temp was 105 again, and she was projectile vomiting all over the place. He was waking Ben up, getting him ready and bringing the whole family into the ER.
So we all sat in the ER with a screaming crying baby, who thankfully was done puking by then) until midnight when I finally sent DH and Ben home.
they came in to give Alexis and IV and draw some blood and decided to admit us. So after 5 hours in the ER we went up to the Peds floor. She lost her IV, so we had to get another one. (taking 3 trys ) We were finally settled in and she was finally able to sleep at 6 am. We spent all day mothers day with her screaming and in pain. SHe was having such bad stomach cramps. She wouldn't drink or anything, so we spent another night. At that point I was on 39 hours with no sleep at all, so DH stayed with her and I took Ben home and slept.
Monday she was looking TONS better, and started to drink a little. She kept walking over to the door and waving at people passing in the hallway. She was back to her old self! they let us go home at 6:30 pm. So, now we are all home and doing better. She doesn't seem to be drinking much today yet, but I am working on it!
