Advice on gaining weight and clothes
coasterqueen wrote: This is rather embarassing to say and ask but I really need someone's advice, lol. I weighed 129.5 when I went on my float trip first weekend in July. I came back from that trip weighing 134.5. I apparently either had too much to drink or too much food. Anyways DH kept saying that it was water weight and it will go away. Then I got AF blah blah blah and then a few weeks later I got pg.
I never lost that weight and now it's 8/26 and I weigh 139! I seem to be gaining weight astronomically. My body stinks! Everytime I lose a ton of weight when I don't watch it it comes back on 10x faster. And now that I'm pg and the doctor has restrictions on me so I can't even exercise I don't know what to do.
My clothes fit just right before I got pg. Now they are so tight and VERY uncomfortable. I really don't want to be in maternity clothes yet. For gosh sakes I'm ONLY 7 weeks pg. This is just so embarassing! Anyways..my birthday is coming up and DH asked me what I wanted. We are both practical people and so he suggested I get some clothes that fit. I told him I didn't want maternity clothes yet and he suggested just getting a bigger size clothing. What would you do? I keep thinking if I buy a bigger size and spend the money even at a consignment shop that I'm going to gain before I get my $ worth out of it. But it's too early for maternity.
Did ANYONE have this problem when they were pg with #2 or more or even with their first for that matter?????
amynicole21 replied: Think of it this way - after you have the baby you'll still have a bit of extra padding for a few months (or years in my case!). You can wear the non-maternity stuff again then. I did have to buy a few shirts that were bigger early in my preg because of expansion up top And I had to stop wearing my old jeans at about 3 months because they were just too tight. Don't worry so much about it! You look beautiful anyway
kit_kats_mom replied: Aw, I know what you mean. I gained 14 lbs in the first 4 mos! If it makes you feel any better, I'd gone ahead & picked up a few maternity pants and tops but they are already too small for me.
I would probalby just try to find some drawstring/elastic waist pants in a bigger size and some larger tops. ITA with Amy, you will not lose the weight immediatly after the birth so the clothes can be used then too.
jem0622 replied: With every pregnancy I showed sooner. With the twins I showed a lot sooner but had lost 30 lbs so I wore my bigger clothing until I couldn't anymore. LOL. Then I went to materntiy and I've almost outgrown every stinking thing I have. Oy. LOL.
Do they have maternity items at the consignment shops you go to?? I'd start there. I wouldn't buy bigger sizes. Unless you think you'll wear them after the pregnancy. A waste of money.
I started my pregnancy at 169 and I'm tipping just over 200 now. Wowza! But it's good for the babies. I just keep reminding myself that it was all for them!
MomToMany replied: I was going to suggest some elastic-wait or draw-string pants too. Those are so comfy, it's all I wear (I'm too fat to fit into jeans ). That way, after you have the baby, you'll have some nice comfy pants to wear til you get back into shape.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: The same thing happened to me the second time. I was so bloated, but I started wearing maternity clothes really early, too. I didn't want to look fat and clearly my tummy was bloated. I'd rather look pregnant.
jen replied: I didn't gain much at first but I didn't fit into my hip hugging jeans either! I got jeans 2 sizes bigger that were stretchy like at old navy, then as I grew they still fit me until about 6 months pregnant I just stretched them more :-) AND the beauty of it is, I still have them and I have almost lost all my weight, they still look good I am just not stretching them so much KWIM?? You could also get some cute button down shirts with stretch in them. Old navy has stuff on clearance all the time and that is what I buy and it seems reasonable. I know with your second pregnancy you show earlier/faster so don't worry about it!!!! Your body is just remembering what shape to take, just remember you have a little baby in there, YOU AREN'T FAT!
coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone. I'm going to go to a few consignment shops this weekend and look for pants. The weirdest thing is that my "top" isn't getting any bigger. Strange huh? I would think it would but it's not, lol.
momof2girls replied: Your pg, dont worry soo much about your wt right now as long as your eating healthy that is good for baby! I agree get some stretch pants...
does everone you work with know you are pg??
Guest replied: Thanks . Yes I've told everyone at work. I told my co-worker right away because she's like my mom, I tell her almost everything, lol. I told my boss two weeks ago because his wife is due in November and I wanted to give him time to get used to the idea that I will be on maternity leave during our legislative session, which is not a good thing, lol.
coasterqueen replied: That was me.
Lollie replied: I know how you feel!
With Brianna I only really popped out at about 6 months but with this pregnancy Im already showing and growing by the day! You'd swear Im about 6 months preggo already.Im having to wear some of my maternity stuff already but I also wear draw-string tracksuits and clothing that show off my belly. Lately Ive been sleeping in Hubby's boxer shorts...very comfy!!
I dont even have to tell ppl Im preggo..they just have to take one look at me to see.
Kila replied: I have the same problem. I weighed 110 lbs before I got pregnant and now I am at a wopping 160 lbs. All of my pre pg clothes were snug too and before long (I think ~8-9 weeks) into my pregnancy I couldn't wear any of my pants. I was able to pull off wearing the tops for a little while but not too much longer. We don't have a lot of money that we want to spend on maternity clothes so I go to Target and a resale store in the area. A lot of the time I get really down because I don't feel pretty and there is nothing that I can do about it. But I've just learned to cope and realize that there is something good coming out of it. I can't really tell you what to do to feel much better because I still have my bad days. But just understand that you're not the only one out there. OK?!? Hang in there and talk to DH about it. A lot of the times I am able to get over my funk when I vent to bf. Hang in there!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: When I was pregnant with my first DD I bought stretchy pants and big baggy t-shirts (I think they were from the mens department). I didn't own any Maternity Clothes until I was about 5mths pregnant, I was really lucky we went to Duluth and found some good deals at the Walmart. When I was pregnant with my DS I still fit the Maternity clothes I had with my first pregnancy although, they were too big. For Christmas my MIL bought me a Maternity oufit, but again I didn't really wear maternity clothes. With this last pregnancy I knew I was going to be very big during the summer, I just happened to be looking at the Sears Canada Website, they have a Clearance section and I found some plus size shorts on sale for $5.00. I also went to the Salvation Army and found a really nice pair of Maternity Jeans, really cheap I think I paid $7.00 for them. Again I didn't really wear Maternity clothes, I just bought bigger sizes. I would look now for sales on Tshirts in the Plus sections. I remember being pregnant around this time and into the spring and I was so HOT, even though it was cold outside. As for pants, maybe just buy a couple of pairs in bigger sizes. I'm sorry for my rambling!
angelhair replied: hello, I know what you mean! I had to say goodbye to my jeans about 2 weeks ago and started wearing maternity pants right about then. they look like regular stretch pants and my dad took me shopping and got me two stretch pants and three sweaters. I can still wear the old shirts though. I love motherhood, but you can get stretch pants anywhere, target ect,, in the beginning, hormones are what makes you feel bloated. as your uterus grows bigger it grows out of the pelvic bones which normally hold it into place and it becomes like a own organ byitself(sorry if tmi). but take it as a good sign that your pregnancy is progressing normally. you can look and feel beautiful when pregnant after all it is not fat it is a baby! I started wearing these maternity stretch pants at eight weeks preg so it is perfectly normal to start stretching early, especially if it is your second! love dee
