Accck, school calendar is challenging...

MommyToAshley wrote: Anyone else feel like they are the one going through school again? Seriously, I have to keep Ashley's reminder's in my planning book I use for work or I would forget --

-- Monday they bring home homework that is due on Friday
-- Wednesday they have to wear their school vests because the entire school goes to church that day (if they don't wear it, they are marked down as a uniform violation)
-- Wednesday is also show and tell day (bring an object that begins with a particular word blend)
-- Thursday they have to bring back their library book or they can't check out another one
-- Friday (homework is due) and I volunteer and help out with creative writing.

Plus, there are special items here and there that they need to do or bring in. Surely they can't expect a kindergartener to remember all of these items? I feel overwhelmed and I am not even the one going to school.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: It's AWFUL, Dee Dee!!! And it only gets worse. Of course, by 2nd grade they hold the children responsible for all of it and not the parents. It's a huge responsibility, but right now they are in the process of preparing Ashley for that. There is just so much to remember. And I have two kids to do this for. It's very overwhelming and I've been known to break down a time or two already this year. blush.gif Maddie's teacher sends these little notes home...it drives me crazy! I feel like such a failure.

coasterqueen replied: rolleyes.gif Tell me about it.

MommyToAshley replied:
Yeah, we've set up a routine already, but sometimes things still just slip my mind. The thing I don't necessarily agree with is that the show-and-tell, the uniform violations, and the homework all count as part of the kids grades. So, if the parent forgets or isn't organized, then the child suffers the consequences.

jcc64 replied: Wait until she starts doing research papers and studying for midterms! I can now say that I've been through 10th grade twice, 7th grade three times, and kindergarten 4 times. rolling_smile.gif
I don't remember my parents being so involved in my responsibilities as a student- and education was very important in my house growing up- my parents were both teachers! But the workload was much more reasonable, age appropriate, and far less stressful, and kids could manage w/o the assistance of their parents. I'm all for helping out and being involved, but this was more than I signed up for! rolling_smile.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Yep! Sounds very similar to Tanner's. I know, I feel scatter brained sometimes trying to remember everything. wacko.gif

luvmykids replied: I have been forced to become a calendar fanatic laugh.gif Every day as soon as they get home I write down everything on the calendar. Now if I could just remember to look at the calendar rolleyes.gif

A&A'smommy replied: WOW ohmy.gif They keep them so busy!!!

momofone replied: For us Monday and Wednesday's are gym days she has to wear sneakers and ponytales or she can't play.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I was rushed this morning and going back reading my post it sounds horrible. laugh.gif

I didn't mean it gets worse, just harder and they add things every year.

Monday Maddie gets her 6-10 vocabulary words, 25 spelling words, 2 bible memory verses and whatever project she has for the week.

Vocabulary:
Write definitions and form of speech
Study each night for test on Friday

Spelling:
Put in ABC order and code
Study each night for test on Friday

Memorize bible verse for Friday.

Math homework each night, in addition to 15 mins reading aloud to parent (AR books)

5 tests on AR books, at home on computer

Thursday is library day

Tuesday is chapel and she has to wear her jumper

Every Wednesday I'm at school helping in the classroom

Not to mention I have to remember to write down what days I ordered hot lunch for her (it's catered). laugh.gif This is an important one to her. tongue.gif

kimberley replied: hug.gif it only gets worse wacko.gif.

Brias3 replied: I feel incredibly overwhelmed too! I feel like its a constant stream of notes and letters from the teachers, announcing new things all the time. I seriously leave the house every morning feeling as though I'm forgetting something- I hate that!

I am searching and searching for a way to organize the things I have to keep track of for Olivia - there are so many papers and things that come home and have to go back it is very overwhelming - I don't even remember being this overwhelmed when I went away to college blush.gif
