AFP test and Glucose fasting test

hopefulmomtobe wrote: I did my tests today, they were both just blood tests so it wasn't bad. I get the results on Tuesday. IF glucose comes back positive...(which is known to bring big babies and since 2 of my previous kids broke their collar bones upon delivery) my doctor suggests a c-section. IF it comes back negative we can move forward with other means of delivery to ensure the baby doesnt break its collar bone. UGH...such pressure! So, to me....this test is HUGE!

boyohboyohboy replied: HI! you didnt say anything about hearing the heart beat today, so I assume you did and it was fine...
I had GD with both my babies. I was told caleb was large, and he was born at 34 and 1/2 weeks at 7 pounds 6 ounces...not large, but large for that age...
Jake I was told was over 11 pounds on an ultra sound when i was 37 weeks preg.. so I was induced, and he was born at 7 pounds 14 ounces...so the dr's are not always right, and neither are the tests....

I took insulin only with the last preg. and it did seem to keep the babies weight under control. so dont worry there are options, and i think having a c section although not what you want, isnt the worst thing that could happen.

stay positive and take one day at a time...

praying for good results for you with your blood tests....

hopefulmomtobe replied: Thank you!!!! smile.gif I know I need to watch my diet better anyway, so this will help me remember that everything I put in my body really does matter. (I am a junk food junky big time!!) Even when I'm not prego. smile.gif

I heard the heartbeat, but he didn't do a count, but I was glad to hear the heartbeat. smile.gif

I will post a picture next week. UGH... blush.gif

hopefulmomtobe replied: Can you guys believe I had this test done last Friday and I still do not have results! I asked the nurse when she was drawing the blood when I will find out and she said Tuesday... I called yesterday and they said it may be a week before I find out anything! What!!! I dont want to be pushy because they know me when I call up there, it is a small office and I have to see these women for the next couple of months, so I dont want to be a pain, but that isnt right to have a pregnant women sitting here worring that something might be wrong! UGH!

Thanks for hearing me vent. smile.gif

Sorry it's taking so long...That must be stressful! I remember mine didn't come back as soon as they said too. Just remember, whatever they say, you'll be fine. A c-section isn't a walk in the park, I admit, but at least you know what to expect and baby will be safe. hug.gif

Mommy2BAK replied: Oh I hope you are able to find out the results soon! smile.gif

skinkybaby replied: Any word yet???

MyBabeMaddie replied: I'm sorry they are making you wait!

hopefulmomtobe replied: I should find out something today, I hope. I was last Friday that they did the blood work, it has been a week now. If I dont hear by noon, then I will call them.

Thanks for asking!

hopefulmomtobe replied: Ok, just got the call.....NOOO gestational diabetes!!! YEAH! That means I do not have to have a c-section unless of course he is a big baby. Also the AFP test came back fine as well. I think they checked for spina-bifida too and that was fine.

Am I done with these testings? I think they will check diabetes again at 24 weeks, but any other tests for the baby? I think I remember them saying something about checking his heart when we are further along, but I dont know...

Just sooo glad we are getting over the humps, these tests are sooo scarey!!!

DillsMommy replied: I'm glad everything went well!

hopefulmomtobe replied: Dillsmommy ------Hey - I just saw a posting somewhere else about your test results!! I know you must be freaking out. My sister had a false positive and my best friend with twins had a false positive. They did an ultrasound though and said that since they can see the nose bone that everything was fine but my friend decided to do an amnio just to make sure and it also came back fine. Supposidly, downsydrome children do not have a pronounced nose bone or small pinky bone. I know they checked that on my last ultrasound as well. I am 100% sure everything will be fine. Some women opt out for the AFP test because they are not accurate at all! Think positive, say prayers. I am sure it is fine. PLEASE post on here so I will know how you are doing.
