punkeemunkee'smom wrote: Taylor and I were looking at the moon lastnight (talking about the shuttle) and I was telling her the few things I knew about it so Di's post really interested me...I found this info and thought it was pretty neat! thumb.gif Thanks for the brain food! laugh.gif When we look at the moon tonight-I will have some more things to tell her smile.gif

BAC'sMom replied: TFS Abbie biggrin.gif

We will have to check out the moon tonight too

Momof3inMe replied: TFS!

my kids love to look at the moon. We will have to look at it tonight for sure. What a great way to spend quiet time with your kids right before bed!

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I explained to Tay last night (rather badly I know now) that our calander is based on the moon. I have always been interested in how much 'power' is given to the lunar cycles but now I am excited to tell Taylor that it actually comes from biblical times! cool.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I think that is very interesting. I certainly didn't know all of that before reading the article. blush.gif

holley79 replied: WOW TFS Abbie. I will have to take Annika outside tonight. She loves to watch the moon. Especially when it's HUGE on the horizon. Very interesting information.

luvmykids replied: I had no idea the moon had so much influence in culture, and I never realized that calendars were actually changed to reflect it's cycles. TFS! thumb.gif

A&A'smommy replied: When I was younger my father preached at a church and one of the sermons he did was on this particular subject. Its very interesting stuff and it makes a LOT of sense to me!!

Our Lil' Family replied: Wow, that was totally new information for me! THANK YOU ABBIE!

Hillbilly Housewife replied:

It's interesting how the roman calendar descended from the Greeks and Egyptians, but they get the credit for it.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: OH great so now I have to re-explain again! wacko.gif My poor kid! rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif Just kidding...I did know the phases of the moon were used by the Romans,Greeks,Myans,Egyptians,Etc as their calender...what I did not realize was that it still held true for our calender...I am still amazed that they figured all this stuff out without the 40 billion dollar space missions we have today laugh.gif And we take credit for being so advanced rolleyes.gif wink.gif laugh.gif Thank you for the additional info Rocky! I printed your article as well and added it to our science folder for when we study Lunar phases later this year... thumb.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: You can find the rest of that article here. cool.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Great! Thank you! thumb.gif Of course after Taylor and I talked last night she wanted to know how they figured out seconds and minutes and how watches work..and then why it is always dark in pictures of space(that one I was able to answer)...where is the sun rolling_smile.gif wub.gif rolling_smile.gif I will be reading A LOT in the coming years! wub.gif rolling_smile.gif
