A question - taking baths

Silver wrote: I don't know if anyone else has heard this or not or if it's just one of those old wives tales but does taking a bath affect your pregnancy in any way? Or maybe its just that you shouldn't add things to the water like salts or something. huh.gif

Littlejojames replied: Thats an old wives tale. I fell for them all when i first got pregnant but the midwife cleared a lot of that up for me.

Nothing to do with having a bath affects your pregnancy i have all sorts in my bath with me, bubbles, salts the lot.

You will hear a lot worse than that, i also heard that you cant die your hair and you cant use mobile phones and so on....... All old wives tales... But i fell for them all at first.......

Hope that this helps................. thumb.gif

MomToMany replied: Yep, all old wives' tales. It's not true at all. Just remember to keep the water at a decent temperature. You don't want it too hot (no saunas or hot tubs), which could raise your temperature, causing problems with the baby.

HTH!

kit_kats_mom replied: There may be some truth to it.

Urinary Tract Infections can throw you into pre term labor and the things you put in a bath (bubbles, fragrance etc...) can often upset the delicate balance "downstairs" which can lead to a UTI. I used to get UTI's constantly and they would sometimes morph into kidney infections. When one of my docs suggested that I not use any additives in my baths, I ceased having them.

Also, like the other ladies said, don't make the bath water too hot. Wouldn't want to slow-cook the baby :-)

coasterqueen replied: I'm taking baths.. biggrin.gif . I just use one of those kiddie bath themometers to make sure the bath isn't too warm. wink.gif

mummy2girls replied: I bathed with jenna. I loved my baths when i was preggo. But i never used bubble baths and stuff. and i never put it tooo hot because that could cause problems thumb.gif

redchief replied: Mostly that's a wive's tale; however, if you are predisposed toward UTI's you should avoid those things that have been ID'd as causing them... bath additives in some cases.

I don't know if this has changed over the years but my DW was taught not to bathe if she had lost her mucus plug. Happy spashing!

kimberley replied: i am not a big bath person but i know that is a wives tale. the only time you are not supposed to bath is if you are in labor and your water broke because it could cause an infection. i am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong but that is what i heard.

A&A'smommy replied: I TOTALLY agree its just an old wives tale, take a bath and enjoy yourself, I only took one bath while I was pregnant (mostly because our bathtub was SOOO uncomfortable!).

Silver replied: Thanks everyone for your replies. Sometime things sound so plasible that your not quite sure about it and don't want to take the chance just in case.

"don't want to slow cook the baby" lol oh Kit_Kats_mom that gave me a good laugh, though considering the baby is in a temperature of about 98 degrees it is surprising they aren't born with a touch of sunburn heheh rolling_smile.gif

redchief replied: Was discussing this topic with DW this afternoon and told her what I said...

"...not to bathe if she had lost her mucus plug."

She gave me that look she gives when when waiting for the alien to pop out of my stomach again (she does that now and then). The she said that bathing was fine except after her water broke and when she was in labor (unless training for underwater birth).

I had no idea what she was talking about with that, so I said what I always say when I don't want to look really dumb. I said, "Okay."

MommyToAshley replied:
LOL! Ed, you crack me up! rolling_smile.gif

heavenly_1970 replied:
rolling_smile.gif Youre killing me, Ed! rolling_smile.gif

Kila replied: When I took my pregnancy class they said it was fine unless you're water has broken. Otherwise, there might be an increased risk of infection.

lsjulee replied:
thumb.gif Good one Ed rolling_smile.gif

Now I know why all the "okay"s from Sean - my dh.
