A neat story (and true)

This is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced. I have no way to know who sent it, but there is a kind soul working in the dead letter office of the US postal service. Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was c rying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:
Dear God, Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her. Love, Meredith.
We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had. Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, "To Meredith ," in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, "When a Pet Dies." Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:
Dear Meredith, Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by. Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. Love, God
MotherForever2043 replied: OMG, that is the sweetest thing Whoever did that..bless his/her heart. It's sad to say that there are people out there, who would of just thrown it out or mailed it back. It's good to know that ther are still some good, kind hearted people out there. Meredith must of been thrilled, to know he really got the letter.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I have read this before - it was on Snopes.com (marked as a true story, not an urban legend). It is so touching. If anyone is interested in reading the article, go here. It's the same story as above with some information directly from the family added at the end.
luvmykids replied: OMG!!!!! The lady who sent this (my moms friend) TOTALLY passed this off as THEM Their daughters name really is Meredith, I have to go call my mom and tell her
lovemy2 replied: Talk about paying it forward
lovemy2 replied: Oh my - I posted this before I read your response - are you kidding? What wierdos.....but I do have to say if that is a true story it is definately wonderful
My3LilMonkeys replied: Sorry - I didn't mean to cause trouble. Since it was a true story I just assumed your mom knew them.
amynicole21 replied: Oh man, that is beautiful
MommyToAshley replied: That is such a touching story.... I am glad it turned out to be true. It brought tears to my eyes.
However, it is kind of weird that your Mom's friend tried to pass it off as their story.
luvmykids replied: I called my mom...she said she is too embarrassed for the lady to confront her I told her it didn't have to be a big dramatic confrontation, just to ask her some questions. She said she'd think about it
However, the fact that it is indeed true is still very heartwarming
luvmykids replied: Ok, I feel really, really stupid.
I emailed her and said that I saw the same story on snopes, she replied and seemed confused, I point blank said I was under the impression that the email she sent was about them and she called me right away to say that she didn't think anyone would think that since the email had a pic of a little girl and a dog that clearly isn't her daughter ( who is not four, but six...I didn't catch that) She was kind of miffed and I feel bad and now my mom is mad at me for saying something.
lovemy2 replied: OOOOOOPPPPPPSSSSS
My2Beauties replied: I was getting ready to post I've gotten that e-mail before, glad I read the other responses first. Touching story, though indeed.
holley79 replied: Aww that is so sweet.
