A lot of things going on here today
coasterqueen wrote: First off Megan ROLLED over from her tummy to her back today! I'm so excited because I wasn't for sure she'd do it before I went back to work. But she made her momma proud and did it right away when I put her on her tummy late this afternoon. She even smiled when I stared at her doing it (in shock) like she knew I'd be proud of her.
Second, the PED GI had a cancellation this afternoon so we took it. We found out so much, I'm atually too tired to explain it all. LOL. It was a very long appointment.
First off she has anal stenosis (sp?) where the *ring* of her bum hole was too small (poor baby girl) so they had to stretch it out. It's really just too painful to even explain to you guys. I still can't think about it and thankfully she stopped crying pretty quickly. I on the other hand am still about ready to gush tears over it. BUT once they did it we'll never have to worry about it again and supposedly it's supposed to help her poo better. I thought she was doing fine, but oh well.
Second, he gave us some other options for meds so we are exploring those. Then he gave us some tips that he wants us to do with Megan regarding her reflux and he assures us since even though she has prominent reflux that hers is much better than a lot of babies out there because she's gaining weight and not having some of the other issues so he thinks she'll out grow it as early as 6 months to a year.
Then he had us meet with the speech pathologist/oral therapist/certified lactation consultant (yes she's ONE person with all these qualifications ) and she was EXCELLENT. I'm soooo glad we got to meet her. She watched me nurse Megan and listened to her swallow with the stethoscope and talked to me a bit, etc. She then took Megan aside for a bit and interacted with her for a good 1/2 hour and told us that Megan has deep neurological sensory issues basically more than likely stemming from her being an early bird and her system not being able to handle all the sensory yet. Does this make any sense? LOL, I'm trying to explain it the best I can. Basically we will have to meet with an occupational therapist who will teach us ways to deal with these sensory issues until Megan can learn to deal with them on her own. It's like her body goes on overload faster than a normal baby would when they get overstimulated. They outgrow it as soon as they learn to handle this themselves it's just that they will teach us how to help her do that in a more timely manner.
She also consulted with the LC I had been seeing and they both do not think Megan has a milk protein allergy. Her rash is more of a contact rash and would only stay away some of the time when I was on the dairy elimination diet and coincidentally would come back when I would test dairy. Some of the other issues I thought went away when I went off dairy were just coincidental as well. She said that maybe I shouldn't have like milk or ice cream to start out with but thought I should go ahead and try regular foods. So I went out and had myself PIZZA tonight and we'll see what happens.
Wow, that was longer than I thought and I apologize for writing a book. If you got this far I thank you. I'm just so glad we got in now because I feel much better with the help we got and will be getting. She did say it will be a harder road to deal with her sensory issues with the fact that she'll be going back to daycare where there are 4 screaming toddlers running around and 5 dogs. I'm a bit nervous about that now that she said it but I don't have a choice financially so we'll have to deal with it.
Oh and what I thought was cool was that the Children's Miracle Network paid for the consult with the lady (with all the specialties ). She said that issues like this is pretty big for them so they cover them. Weird but cool!
A&A'smommy replied: WOW Megan and Mommy had a big day today!!! WTG Megan I'm glad you got to see her do it before you went back to work!!! Poor girl sounds like she had kinda a rough day too but at least you got that one thing fixed and now you know what you will have to learn to handle in the future... How cool that they paid for it though!!!
amymom replied: I am glad you got in today. I am looking forward to hearing more about your appt. I am glad it went so well for you. What other things did the GI doc suggest? Are you going to try any of the new meds? Thanks for letting us know how it went.
mckayleesmom replied: Awwww.....things are looking up then. Just have to keep reminding yourself that one day you will look back at this and it will be ancient history. ...BTW..I can't get over how much she looks like Kylie....like her mini me.
Jamison'smama replied: Is this the same family as Sensory Integration Disorder?
So glad you found out all of this information. Hang in there--sounds like everything is working out.
Josie83 replied: Wow lots of things going on . . . sounds like you're getting to the bottom of things though. Don't worry about her going to day care, I'm sure she'll be fine xx
amynicole21 replied: Woo Hoo on the rolling over!!!
I wish I could meet this woman! She sounds like a superhero I'm so glad you got some answers, and I hope they lead to some solutions quickly for you!
kit_kats_mom replied: Wow! ROlling over? Go Girl
The stenious thing sounds painful. poor girl
Glad you are getting some answers though. I think Dr. Sears has said something in one of his books about the sensory thing. If I remember correctly, it's why some babies are referred to as "high needs".
coasterqueen replied: yep high needs is the term. So that means I got TWO high needs babies. The therapist said we would have benefited w/Kylie if we would have brought her in. The difference is they both seem to have diiferent high needs. Megan wants calm and quiet and Kylie wants hyoerness!
coasterqueen replied: yes she mentioned that disorder inour talks. that's basically what it is and after talking with her she believs Kylie might suffer from the same which scares me a bit because I wonder if that is going to cause her issues w/learning.
ediep replied: oh my, what a day!!!! It sounds like things are looking up. thats great!!!
luvbug00 replied: Good job on the roll over
Poor bum bum I'm glad she recovered quickley.
5littleladies replied: Way to go on the rolling over Megan!!
I'm glad you are starting to get things figured out! It must be a relief to at least have an idea of what is going on.
aspenblue1 replied: Congrats on the rolling over.
Sounds like you got a lot of great info I am glad they were able to get you in.
gr33n3y3z replied: I'm glad you found out some answers now it will much easier to deal with things Glad you got in much sooner then planed.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: WTG Megan on rolling over for mommy!!!
Karen you must be so relieved. You got so much information....a lot to take in, but nonetheless, ANSWERS!!!
Jamison'smama replied: I am reading a book on Sensory Integration Disorder called The Out of Sync Child by Carol Stock Kranowitz. It has been informative. I think Jamison has some of this. It can play a role in learning so it is good to get information early as it is very treatable.
also WTG Megan on the rolling over--forgot to add that in my last post.
jcc64 replied: Well, the butthole stretching thing hurts just hearing about it! Ouch! Just be glad she won't remember any of that when she's older! As far as the sensory integrative disorder thing- I have heard great things about the book Brenda mentioned. I am fascinated that there are physical exams designed to detect that sort of thing in such a young baby. I think it's great that you have so much information, it can only help you meet Megan's needs more efficiently. I wouldn't worry about SID getting in the way of learning. It's much more a personality type than anything else. It's what used to be called a high strung child. My ped and my occupational therapist girlfriend mentioned it in conjunction with Corey's neurotic poopy problems ( I suspect that's how Brenda got involved with it as well). I'm sure once Megan's nervous system matures, she'll calm down some. Which is pretty much what this woman told you. In the meantime, I suggest plenty of alcohol for you...
huggybugboy replied: Good job Megan!! Glad you are starting to get some answers and things are starting to work out. Good luck!
coasterqueen replied: I would but I'm nursing! LOL. I do try to sneak one in when she goes those long stretches of sleep though.
BTW if Brenda reads this too...I will DEFINITELY check that book out. I know Kylie has some of these issues as well and I can get the both of them *straightened* out at once. Hopefully. Thanks.
3_call_me_mama replied: WOW! That is a big day! But a lot of great things happened for you. So glad you got some great info an maybe can help sort out a lot of things for you!
DansMom replied: You must be rejoicing at the chance to eat dairy again! I hope Megan catches up with her sensory issues soon. Hey, high needs kids are smart, you know... and talented too. Consider yourself doubly blessed
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I'm sorry I didn't realize you were having some difficulty with Megan. I'm glad to hear that you finally got some answers and it looks like the doctors have a pretty good plan in place for you. I love the picture of her in your avatar, she is such a cutie!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Wow sounds like you had a busy day! That bum stretching thing sounds terrible - poor Megan and Mommy! I'm glad you got lots of answers though ~ and WTG Megan for rolling over!
kimberley replied: WTG Megan for rolling!!
