A good hand lotion?
mom89 wrote: Hi all. I've got really dry hands and cracked real bad as well. I've been searching for a good lotion that will help my problem with my hands-but no luck. I read on another site(forget which one)that aveeno is good, but forget exactly what they said about it. Can you help? I NEED me some good lotion!! Thanks!!
mammag replied: I like Curel a lot. If my hands get really bad I'll put Vaseline on at night and put gloves on it works amazingly well. I also like to put Vaseline around the nail area after doing a lot of cleaning because it keeps the cuticles nice.
gr33n3y3z replied: I have that same problem bc my hands are always in water with soap I use a Mary Kay line its called Satin Hands and it works great But I've always heard that Vaseline on at night and put 100% cotton gloves on will help alot.
Boys r us replied: Try sleeping in gloves with vasoline on your hands. Also bed, bath and beyond sells a glove set with a hand recovery lotion in the package. I'm sure other places sell it as well, but I actually just saw this there yesterday(I got some for my feet and it worked great last night).
jolene555 replied: The vasoline thing is a good idea - it works for your feet, too. Problem is it drives me CRAZY to sleep with gloves on, especially if I need to handle Georgia at all. My hands get pretty dry, too, with all the art classes I'm taking (charcoal, ceramic clay). Yet, my hands are doing surprisingly well. I use baby lotions every morning - either the regular old Johnson and Johnson's Baby lotion in the pink bottle or Gerber's baby lotion with Oatmeal (it smells soooo good). The Gerber's seems to have some amount of healing ability - I've also seen it clear up hives because of the oatmeal in it.
The Satin Hands stuff from Mary Kay is to die for, but totally expencive. I think that the process also includes an exfolient that you'd probubly want to avoid.
TeagansMom609 replied: Aveeno is best IMO. I swear by it. Ive been using for years. My hands get so dry that if I try to use any other kind of lotion it makes my hands burn and they get red. Only on the outside of my hands though. The insides never seem to get dry. Aveeno works so good. Its got oatmeal in it, not sure what that does for your skin but it helps mine out!
mom89 replied: Yes,I've heard about the vaseline and do that at nite. (I don't wear the gloves tho. lol)I heard its best to use something greasy. Anyways, thanks everyone for your suggestions; I was looking at all the lotions last nite and wasn't sure what to try enxt since they all look the same! lol I'll try that aveeno.
texasp3 replied: I like Arbonne's hand cream A LOT, and I also like Curel Soothing Hands... it's one of those tubes that stands on it's lid - says "stands up to handwashing" on it.
kimberley replied: i agree with the vaseline and gloves . for daytime, Keri lotion is good too.
coasterqueen replied: I agree, Aveeno works the best for me too.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Arbonne is great! You don't want anything oily or greasy! Most products out there contain mineral oil and they just sit on top of your skin without soaking thru. It doesn't allow your skin to breathe. Kind of like when you use chap stick a lot. The more you put on, the more you need. So, I would try to find something without mineral oils. I use the Arbonne Hand Cream or Arbonne Body Butter. They both have healed my cracked hands. And mine were really dry and rough. Aveeno is good, but I'm not sure about the mineral oil content.
I did a test one time with a cracker soaked in baby oil and a cracker soaked in water. The one soaked in water became all puffy and mushy. The one soaked in baby oil stayed hard and didn't change. The cracker represents your skin and the baby oil contains mineral oil...it won't soak in.
Anyway, I hope you find something that works for you!
A&A'smommy replied: I sell mary-kay and I agree I LOVE satin hands, also make sure you drinking enough water sometimes that will help too.
mom89 replied: Hmm..can you buy the Arbonne at the grocery store,or do I have to go to a special place for it? Thanks!!
Emeraldsmom replied: My dad has the same problem because he works at a lumber place. What he does is puts vaseline all ove his hands, and them puts latex gloves on for a couple of hours every night. I know it sounds wierd, but it works for him.
Allyson&Patrick'sMom replied: Clinique makes a great hand cream, Mary Kay Satin Hands, and Avons Silicon Glove ( I used this one by the gallon when I worked in the nursing home....with all the gloves and hand washing my hands were going to crap, so I bought this and it worked instantly, hardly a need to reapply and it is cheap)
So there are 3 in different price ranges that all work wonderfully!
mom89 replied: Yea I put on vaseline every nite. I read on a site re dry skin and it said vaseline-or anything thats greasy-is best. It heals the cracks faster. Just wish tho I can put the stuff on more often, but I can't. Not till the kids go to bed anyway. Thanks again everyone!!
