9 month well baby visits....

~Roo'sMama~ wrote: How important are they? Andrew's ped said that it was up to us whether we came in our not and I was planning on it, but now I'm not sure. It's such a big hassle for me to get there because I live out of town and don't have a car.

I want to see where he is for weight and height and all that, and it would be nice to check in since he hasn't been to see the ped since December but I just don't know if it's worth the trouble. unsure.gif

coasterqueen replied: Trouble? I don't know. dunno.gif I always take them to all of the visits, but my doc always makes me think that they are important.

Would you be like me and freak out because you wonder if everything is ok with him if you didn't take him? That would be me. happy.gif

5littleladies replied: If he doesn't need shots I'd skip it. Especially since she said it's up to you. Andrew is healthy enough-that's no issue. happy.gif

amynicole21 replied: Nora got 2 shots at her 9 month... She kind of got messed up on her visit schedule due to ear infections though - these might have just been late. As long as they said it was up to you, I would skip it. I like to go to them to see her growth and ask questions, but it's not a hassle for me to get to the office.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Thanks ladies. smile.gif I'm thinking I might just skip it. If I had a car I think I'd definitely go but I don't really want to get up early, drive Dh to work, take Andrew to the ped, stay in town all day, then go pick up Dh again. wacko.gif snooze.gif

Karen I don't think I'd freak out about anything... I don't have any issues to bring up to the ped right now anyways. I guess if something came up I can make an appointment for him - he isn't due for any more shots until his first birthday so pretty much all she would do is check his weight and height (the only reason I want to go and something I can do at home) and run through the same list with me that she always does. I do feel a bit bad about depriving her the privilege of 15 minutes with the sweetest baby boy on the planet... but she'll live until June. tongue.gif happy.gif

Oooh I just remembered that he has his 9 month appointment with WIC next week and they'll weigh him there, so I guess that will satisfy my curiosity enough. thumb.gif

kimberley replied: dunno.gif we don't do a nine mo visit here unless something is wrong. it's every month for 6mos then every 6mos for a year, then yearly. if it is that difficult, i probably wouldn't go. glad you figured it out smile.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil didn't have any shots on his 9 month, so I would say skip it, especially if you don't have any immediate concerns. You can always call if you had a major question come up in the next couple months. We are fortunate to be only a three minute drive from our ped, but since we get snow sometimes, I can relate to not wanting to go far if I had too. That's why I made sure everything was super close when we moved here, I hate to drive! tongue.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
You know that's not what I meant. tongue.gif I like to stay at your house all day, it's the getting up at 6 and being gone until evening that's exhausting! wink.gif

1lilpeanut2love replied: I say go. At Kaylee's 9month check up she got 2 shots. I have never heard of a doctor saying you don't have to come and it's up to you. WEIRD. I would never miss an appointment. My childs health and wellbeing means the world to me. Maybe if you don't like the trip find a doctor that is closer. My SO always goes with me to Kaylee's appointments. HE has never missed one. When she has an appointment he takes off early. He NEVER miss an appointment with me while I was pregnant either. HTH. GO.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
He is all up to date on his shots and won't need any more until his one year appointment. wink.gif That is why she said it was an optional visit. Otherwise I would go for sure. happy.gif

edited to say my Dh can't take off work to go with me to Andrew's appointments, and he can't get off early. If he could this wouldn't be an issue because then he could drive me there. wink.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
That's about how it is here - here it is 1 week, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, then 9 months and then 1 year. They do shots at the 2, 4,6 month visits and the 1 year visit. I think after the one year visit it's yearly. happy.gif

camneely8 replied: I would go. But thats just me. Our doc wanted to see our kid and I had no problem making the effort to get off work to do it. But its a personal thing.
