9 days and counting - until my first appointment!!

Tamatha wrote: I am getting SOOOOO excited! I have my first appointment with my OB on 12/9, and I can't wait! I think they will be doing my first u/s at that point and giving us an EDD... According to my very un-scientific research, I think that I'm between 6 and 7 weeks along, which would fit just about right with our b'ding, but who knows! That's just based on hCG levels, which supposedly aren't a very reliable way of dating a pregnancy... so its all still up in the air! I will be so glad to have answers and to get to see my little one!

Anyway, just had to share my excitement! (Yes, this is our first baby, can you tell?! lol)

MommyToAshley replied: How exciting! thumb.gif

My first appointment was pretty boring, just confirmed the PG, got a script for prenatals, filled out a bunch of paperwork and got a bunch of literature. However, it was still an exciting and important milestone for me. biggrin.gif

They may not do an U/S until you are a little further along when they can date the PG...but, I could be wrong.

A&A'smommy replied: congratulations!!! wub.gif

Tamatha replied: Thanks! I'm pretty excited... did I mention that?!

They had me come in and do two blood different blood tests about 5 days apart to determine if my hCG levels would be high enough for "Doc to see a sac." I've been trying to figure out what that means, but the only thing that makes sense is an u/s, isn't it?? They wanted to make sure that my level would be at least 1500 before I saw the doctor. I was at 150 the first test, and 650 the second. The nurse was pleased that I would be plenty far along by the 9th... what does that sound like to you guys who have been there before?? I'm really at a loss here! lol But they did for sure tell me that I would be getting an EDD at my appointment on the 9th.

MommyToAshley replied: hmm, sounds like they might do an U/S then. How neat! The first U/S is always so special. Please keep us posted!

Littlejojames replied: The first u/s is amazing seeing that little thing is so emotional. Drink loads of water before your scan, with my first one i had not drunk enough water that it looked like a little blurr.

Good luck and get loads of photos of the scan, still got my on my fridge at home. Will have my 20 week scan friday so will have another one to join it wub.gif

Let us know how it goes

paradisemommy replied: well, i don't know if doctors are different but mine said that the perfect age for the 1st u/s is 8 weeks - at that time they can adjust your edd if there are any discrepancies...

good luck!!! HOW exciting!! let us know how it goes!!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Have fun! happy.gif
I had an u/s at 8 weeks too... I was kinda surprised when my doc said we were gonna do one so early but it was incredible! wub.gif It really put my mind at ease to see that something was actually in there - I was so paranoid at first!

Tamatha replied: Yeah, I think it will add a new dimension to this whole thing if we actually get to see little Baby Smith developing in there! Its so early yet, and I'm not showing. Don't really have m/s except a LOT of burping. Biggest two symptoms are this overwhelming fatigue and the "girls" being unbelievably tender. So I think this is still just a concept for DH and me. I hope we do get our first u/s next week!! If we do, we are planning to make copies and get picture frames to give to my family at Christmas along with an invitation to come see the newest member of the family in July--that's how we'll break the news!

Nicole replied: Congrats and the very best of luck to you! smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: How exciting! With Kylie I didn't get an u/s at 8 weeks but with this baby I've had more than I want to count, lol. Good luck! thumb.gif

Tamatha replied: 5 days left!!

And if this exhaustion doesn't go away soon, I'm not sure what I'm going to do! I just slept 12 hours, and I feel like I could lay right back down and sleep some more! I really hope this passes soon....

MommyToAshley replied:
Enjoy the sleep while you can! I took afternoon naps when I was PG, and I missed them after the baby was born! biggrin.gif

You must be getting excited about the first appointment, I can't wait to hear all about it!

maestra replied: I had an u/s with both of my pregnancies at the 8 week mark. My docs said it's the best time to date a pregnancy, calculate an edd, and if there are any problems (like an ectopic pregnancy) they will see them early. It's really neat to see the baby so small!

And the tiredness is par for the course! Sleep while you can! When you are on #2 you don't usually get the chance! rolling_smile.gif

Tamatha replied: TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY!!! I can't wait!!! I hope I can sleep tonight! And concentrate at work tomorrow... I probably should just write it of, huh?! lol Anyway, I'll let you all know what the doc says!!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Have fun! thumb.gif I hope you get your ultrasound. happy.gif
