Kaitlin'smom wrote: Okay so saturday night DH and I are going to a time warp prom, this year we decided to go retro, I have the outfit, and ideas fro my hair but I need help with makeup, anyone remember what makeup look was big then....around 87-88? OMG and jewlery! I almost forgot that.
lisar replied: Try this and google these names and look at their pictures it might help.
1980s Icons
When choosing 1980s style makeup, look for icons of the 80s. Stars like Madonna, Brook Shields, Olivia Newton-John, and Joan Collins are excellent icons. Television shows such as Dallas , and Designing Women are fantastically fun to watch and reminisce. The 1980 were fun and exciting in a bold manner. The makeup is meant to enjoy.
hoosier momma replied: Big hair and lots of makeup, blue eyeshadow was still pretty big in the 80's
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Big hoops in the ears, and blue or green on the eyelids. The WHOLE eyelids. Big chunky jewellery.
I can't believe that style is coming back. Ew ew ew.
coasterqueen replied: ITA.
I like the big hooped earrings and chunky jewelry though, I'm glad that came back. The eye shadow thing could have stayed in the past.
Kaitlin'smom replied: okay I have some big hoop earrings, dont have any braclets though I think I might have blue eyeshadow......will have to look. probably wont wear any necklace though wont really go with outfit but big earring, braclets woudl be good.
thanks now I will just have to find a couple chuncky bractlets or rubber ones
coasterqueen replied: I saw a ton of places this past weekend that have chunky bracelets. For cheap ones, though, I'd check out Walmart or Target.
ETA: You can also go with just thin metal bracelets but lots of them.
Kaitlin'smom replied: oh ya I used to have them I wonder if I have any still........
thanks
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Just go to Claire's and you will be stepping into a time warp! I just had an 80's party and wore white hoops and a white beaded bracelet. I also wore purple eyeshadow and frosted lipgloss in a hot pink color. Lots of blush.
Kaitlin'smom replied: thanks, thats another great idea.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh I forgot that I also bought a big white belt from Walmart...in their sale section! I think I actually got the jewelry there too. Buy makeup from the dollar store. I bought my outfit from the thrift store. I found a big oversized hot pink sweatshirt and cut the top so it fell off my shoulder. That wrapped the belt around the middle since it was long. Then wore with leggings and a leopard print skirt. Wore spiky heels.
Kaitlin'smom replied: ya I got my jeans at goodwill, I just need the jewlery now I totaly forgot about that I will have to see what I do have and go from there, I got a belt for $1 so for I have spent $15 for the outfit the shoes were the biggest cost at $9.
jcc64 replied: Just think Madonna in "Desperately Seeking Susan". That's the 80's look to me. Ugh.
Kaitlin'smom replied: got some great bangle braclets and lots of them.....found some blue eyeshadow, pinkish purple lip gloss, I thinK i am set but socks....forgot I need socks, I only have cashmere blend socks and that wont work.....thanks for all the help.
kimberley replied: we didn't wear socks in the 80s lol. we all wore those pointy black flats or jelly shoes or byway white canvas sneakers with no socks.. not even in winter
and you are forgetting one big part of the make up.. heavy black eyeliner. and you could add the colored mascara, bright red lipstick and white powdered face. how did we think we looked good??
mckayleesmom replied: Don't forget the BLUE eyeshadow...
Jamison'smama replied: Although you are probably already headed that way. My make-up was less about blue eyeshadow and more about blue eyeliner and blue mascara with some nice pink lips
