4 month shots and ready to pull my hair out
flirtycuddle wrote: My ds got his 4 month shots yesterday at 1pm and it has been 28 hours now. He is still screaming from them and running a low fever. He refuses to eat and when I try a cool bath he just screams till he gets sick. He has only taken one nap today and that was only cuz I put him in his crib and made him. He has been up since 2am fussy and I just so ready to scream. I understand he doesn't feel good and it's cuz of the shots but last time he didn't scream like this. I can be holding him and he just cries and during his feedings he just spits out hte bottle and screams. I knwo he is hungry but won't eat. How much longer can he go on doing this?
mom2my2cuties replied: Have you given him any Motrin? Or Tylenol? (Motrin would actually be a little better at this point)
kit_kats_mom replied: I'd probably call the ped. If he's been that out of sorts for that long, they would want to know about it. I'd give him motrin then call the ped or nurse for advice. I believe they are supposed to report negative reactions to the vaccinations and I'd say that qualifies.
flirtycuddle replied: I've been giving him tylenol every 4 hours and only thing it does is help with the fever a lil bit but not for long. He is in his crib sound alseep for now knowing I am gonna pay for that one later when he decides to wake up. I am calling his pedi in the morning about how hes acting. I just have to make it through tonight with him.
mom2my2cuties replied: Try alternating with some motrin...Thier little bodies build up resistances to medicines and that is why they say to alternate.
CantWait replied: This sounds stupid, but there were a couple times I didn't realize I was actually touching Anthony's leg where he had got his shots, and it was still tender. Make sure you're clear of that area.
flirtycuddle replied: I am extra careful to stay away from him legs or else he goes into a real big meltdown and takes 10 mins to calm him down. Well I think he is out for the night seeing as it has been 3 hours since he went for his nap and only woke to finally eat a couple of ounces then right back out.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I like Motrin a lot more than Tylenol. Works better, if you ask me. Hope he's doing better. Tanner never takes well to shots either. It's better now that he's older, but he always got sick right after them as a baby.
flirtycuddle replied: He slept from 5pm to 5am and only woke 2x to eat where he actually ate 8oz each time. That was the first time he ate a full bottle since he got his shots. This morning he is a completly different baby and back to his self.
My dd got sick after her 2 month shots but that was it and ds got a lil clingy after his 2 month shots. This time though he just screamed no matter what and wouldnt nap and all that. Next time I will 2 shots let him get over that then go back for the next 2. 4 at once was just to much on his system
3_call_me_mama replied: You need to call his Dr. This is a vaccine reaction. It needs to be reported. No matte rhow much tylenol and motrin you give him it's not going to help. Honestly. You can alternate all you want but all you are doing is pumping more crap into his littel body when it is already trying ot fight somethign off. DO NOT let him get those same shots again as each time they have a reaction it gets worse. There could be an ingredient in teh shot that he is allergic to and his reaction could be far worse next time. I'm not tryign to scare you but being truthful and honest. The excessive sleepiness and lack of eating is not good. please call the Dr. Good luck to you and hope he feels better soon.
hoosier momma replied: DEFINITELY call the doctor. A reaction like this needs to be discussed with medical professionals and as mentioned before he may be allergic. A baby should never sleep that much or not want to eat for hours on end following shots.
holley79 replied: I'm glad that he is better today. I would defiantly contact his Pedi though and just give them the heads up about how he was for the past couple of days.
flirtycuddle replied: I called the pedi and they noted it on his file and said next time they are only doing 1 shot a week to see what one he had a reaction to and after each shot I am to remain in the office with him under watch for an hour. I have an appointment for my dd tomorrow and they also told me to bring him wiht to take a quick look at him.
I couldn't belive he slept for 12 hours (waking every 6 hours to eat then right back out) last night. He has never done that before but has eaten 3 8oz bottles since 2 am(now 10am) and some ceral also. He woke for the day at 5am and already had one nap for 30mins so far. His fever is also gone and he isn't screaming anymore. The pedi said if he starts to act out of sorts to bring him in immediatily also.
