3rd food question
Sarah&Mackenzie wrote: I am introducing 3rd foods to Mackenzie. She doesn't seem to like them that well especially the pasta one's. Is it o.k. to just keep her on 2nd foods and try and give her more table foods. She will eat the whole jar of 2 foods, but barely eats any of the 3rd ones, is she just being picky?
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil is 11 months and I still can't get him to really eat #3s. What's really the rush? I would rather my son get food in, whatever form it's in, then worry about my child not getting enough. I still try cutting up pieces of fruit just so he can practice, but he gags on the small pieces of pasta in the jars too. Hang in there! She'll get it eventually.
ammommy replied: We pretty much skipped 3rd foods and went to table foods. Have you tasted the stuff? Go ahead and introduce soft table food cut up in nice, small pieces.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Whenever we have soft food I do give her some. Like mac & Cheese, spaghetti, and she loves scrambled eggs. What other table foods do you suggest I give her? Thanks for responding!!!
ammommy replied: How old is she, again? She looks like she is about 9-11 months, right? At that age, I gave fruits, canned or steamed veggies, chicken breasts cut small (but my kids had a lot of teeth), cheese, soup (a big hit ), yogurt, crackers, oatmeal...basically anything other than nuts, honey, beef (hard to chew), pork (hard to chew), and fish. The closer to 11 months they got, the more table food they ate. We just took it slowly and didn't hold back on the seasonings unless it was very spicy. But, my kids loved steamed potstickers and hot and sour soupl, so it really is trial and error. Once my kids tasted flavored food, there was no turning back to jarred, though
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: She's 9 months and has NO teeth, that is why I am a little scared to give her table food yet. If she had teeth she would probablly be on ALL table food. The thing she LOVES the most are those gerber puffs, she eats the life out of those!!!
moped replied: If she doesn' thave teeth I would say to stick to very soft thing
ammommy replied: I'd avoid the meats, then, but soft fruits and veggies should be fine. Let her take the lead on what she will and won't eat. Have fun!
jacobsmama replied: My son would never eat the #3 either but you know they do smell and tast pretty nasty if you ask me. He has teeth then too but he gagged very easy b/c he didn't chew just swallowed (which I think most do) but mashed potatoes, mashed carrots and stuff like that would be good to try. She may also like those little snacks in the baby food section shaped like starts they kinda melt in your mouth. My son loved them and that is how he learned to chew some even when he only had like 2-4 teeth. You are doing great I can tell!
mom2tripp replied: Well I think Tripp is a little different in the fact that he eats ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. He hardly eats baby food, we give him any fruits, veggies, meat, bread, ANYTHING. He only has one tooth but he just loves to eat--the chunkier the better. I think each child is different and if she doesn't like the #3 foods don't rush her
mom2tripp replied: BTW Tripp is a couple weeks younger than your daughter so I hope that helps a little bit
A&A'smommy replied: YES it okay Alyssa NEVER ate them she would puke if I put them in her mouth unless the were completly purade or spagetti
toothytracie replied:
I tried to give Olivia the broccoli, carrots and cheese and I was gagging from the smell
Olivia only has 2 teeth and I have been giving her some tablefood. Does she make chewing motions? Is so, then it is probably ok to go ahead and give her the softer stuff.
Olivia gags alot too and I don't think she is really ready for tablefood but since she refuses to eat babyfood sometimes, I have to give her something. She loves bananas and yogurt.
I heard you could give ground beef that was in small pieces.
There is a girl at the babysitters that is 1 and has the 2 bottom teeth and she eats cheerios
Warbride replied: I don't have this problem with my son, he loves the 3rd foods. But we have to be careful about what we give him, no wheat or oatmeal at all, so it's a little tough to get variety in his diet. One of the things that helped him learn to chew was pinto beans. I go to a quilting club on Tuesdays and we almost always have beans for lunch. So I started giving him some from my plate. I had to watch him really closely to make sure he didn't choke, but he did pretty good. We started that when he was almost 7 months old, now he pretty much eats anything I put in front of him, including the Gerber Graduates fruits and veggies finger food. I did ask my grandma and my mom about this(my grandma raised 4 of her own from birth, as well as 4 stepchildren and multiple foster kids) and they both said it was fine to keep giving my son 2nd foods. No need to rush the chunks, but it doesn't hurt to introduce something chunky, just to get him used to it. Hope this helps some, even though I kinda
KingMom replied: Colin is picky with any new 3rd foods, always gags at first. Occasionally I have to add some water (just a little) and make a bit thinner. He will eat most things he can pick up like macaroni, fruit and veggies cut up small, fruit/veggie puffs, crackers, shredded cheese, different gerber graduates snacks, etc. Where I find it hard for him is if it is still mashed and really thick, he starts to gag. After continued trying though he is getting much better.
lkelly replied: We skipped 2nd and 3rd foods with Nicole. Once she tasted the real thing, there was no going back. I felt kind of guilty though too, trying to get her to eat something I never would.
