grapfruit replied: Ok that's retarded IMO.

You want them to express themselves?
Only if it conforms to our "beliefs"

You want them to honor soldiers and this stupid war that killing dads, moms, sisters, brothers, daughters and sons????
Well you can't draw a gun. You can't talk about guns, nothing to do with a gun. So no drawing a soldier w/a gun. Better leave out knives and tanks and all the rest too...

How about we wake up and think about EDUCATING our children. How about we TALK to them before suspending them for something they probably dont' even understand.

THIS is what's wrong w/our country. We focus on mundane stupid meanlessly stuff instead of what's really important.

Ok, I'm seriously going to shut up b/c I could go on and on on the stuff we put our energy and "out rage" towards instead of what really matters. soapbox.gif

momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I understand that in today's world crisis we need stricter rules, but give me a break. What 2nd grader (for that matter K-as the 4 mentioned) do you know that means any harm by that.

momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied:
Well stated. ITA 100%.

kimberley replied: ohmy.gif ohmy.gif growl.gif that is freakin retarded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! land of the free huh.. whatever!! growl.gif growl.gif u can walk into walmart and buy a weapon under the most ridiculous alias but can't draw one or play cops and robbers in kingergarten. i am seriously moving to the woods!!

grapfruit replied:
ITA! I really need to stay out of this thread. It boils my blood so much I have a hard time putting my thoughts into cohesive sentences. wink.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
I agree... Ashley's school has a policy that they can't play with toy guns, and the teachers discourage them for playing like the are shooting anyone. But, there is a big difference in talking to a kid about guns and violence and suspending them. mad.gif That's why there are so many problems in schools, they slap a rule on everything instead of taking the time to talk and educate the kids.

Insanemomof3 replied:
I could not agree more. GRRRR I hate how petty people are becoming. Next thing we will hear about is that the second grader will get sued for offending another kid. Why not be TOTALLY ridiculous about it? growl.gif

redchief replied: Such has become our world where there are only white and black, and no gray areas can be permitted. This is the world of political correctness and "zero tolerance."

When did we become too stupid to differentiate between a disturbed teen and a child who wants to share pictures of a water pistol fight? Worse, when did we let Big Brother take the right of parenting away from us? By the way, there's a HUGE grassroots campaign afoot here to do the right thing and leave this poor kid alone. There's also follow-up that will, hopefully, address this "zero tolerance" policy. Zero tolerance is for criminals, not students.

This country is beginning to scare the living daylights out of me.

A&A'smommy replied: OMG that is RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! growl.gif

kimberley replied:
amen! horray.gif

i remember when i went to jacob's grade 2 parent/teacher interview. i mentioned how cute it was he had a crush on a girl in his class and one lunch he kissed her cheek but he said she didn't notice. i was giggling and repeating this cute story to everyone... including her... she immediately frowned and told me to have a "talk" with him because that is frowned upon and is sexual harrassment!! blink.gif ohmy.gif mad.gif WTF?! can none of these officials recall innocence?! they ARE making criminals out of innocent children. growl.gif

BAC'sMom replied:

You are not kidding Ed, it's getting crazy huh.gif

lisar replied:
I agree. I think thats stupid. Lexi has told the class stories about her shooting things. Her teacher just laughed and later when no one was around wanted to know what kind of gun she used. (her teacher's husband was a redneck)

jcc64 replied: We are the land of guns and gun lovers, are we not? While nudity and profanity are still strictly prohibited on major network television during primetime, there are no limitations on the amount of gunfights, as far as I know. Guns are so fetishized in our culture, and kids are just the by-product of that. How can we possibly expect them to pretend they aren't an intrinsic part of our culture? Kids just imitate what they think adults are doing.
I'm not a big fan of interfering in child's play. It's fantasy- they're acting out primal impulses in a safe environment- it's a healthy outlet, imo. Another example of mindless morons with no common sense........

My2Beauties replied: That is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard of in my life. What is this world coming to? I'm going to buy a huge plot of land, grow my own food, get my water out of a well, make my own clothes, make my kid's toys and homeschool them myself. Seems to be the only way to keep them safe from anything and everything and away from retards like these who suspend poor innocent children for drawing a water gun. Geez rolleyes.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
I could not agree more.

Boo&BugsMom replied: So, are you saying I shouldn't let Tanner bring his Army men for show and tell on Thursday??? wink.gif laugh.gif

How ridiculous. dry.gif I don't see how suspending the boy served any justice. How about a talk about how things like that just aren't allowed in school??? Did he really have to be suspended? Come on! rolleyes.gif

Kentuckychick replied:
Yes, and better yet, zero tolerance is for individuals old enough to understand the concept!

We don't allow guns in any form at the preschool. They aren't allowed to play with toy guns and they are not allowed to pretend that things are guns. Now does this mean it doesn't happen? Of course not. We thankfully don't have a "Zero tolerance" policy. We are allowed to discuss with the children that guns are not allowed at school and that guns can really hurt people and they scare our teachers and our friends.

If a child forgets the rule we simply remind them, no biggie.

I've said it before that this zero tolerance stuff is crap and I stand by that opinion.
