grapfruit replied: Eek! I need to call my friend that lives in the Valley and make sure she's ok.
Denise how close to this are you?!?!
grapfruit replied: Well I feel a LITTLE better. I just talked to my friend from Shermon Oaks, CA. She said that one of the fires was in Chatsworth (where they were living in Feb when I visited ) but she THINKS that one is under control. She said basically it's all really close, but for now they're ok. Still scary...
Calimama replied: It just hit Solana Beach.. which is about 10-15 miles from us so we're packing up to evacuate since it's heading our way.
grapfruit replied: Becareful! I hope it's stopped before it gets to you...but it almost doesn't sound like it You're in my thoughts and prayers that you stay safe!!!!
grapfruit replied: Denise! You rent right?? Do you have a renters policy???? If it is truly going to hit you. You might take one out if not....Just a thought!!!!
Calimama replied: We live on base housing, government owned I guess.
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: Yeah, but what about all your property I doubt they pay for that.
Calimama replied: Good point.. I guess I better call my insurance company...
grapfruit replied: Call USAA insurance (insurance for military personal) and ask. I know they do property insurance so I'm assuming you can get a renter's policy from them.
There MAY be a freeze on policies, but maybe not...ALSO I assume you're taking all of your vehicles? If you're leaving any of your vehicles, make sure they have comprehensive on the car. If you have comp on it, call and lower your deductible to $0. That way if it does get caught in the fire you're ok. If all is well, you can raise it back up when you get back.
AND for the car, if you leave one, and there's a loan on it. Make them put Loan Gap on the policy (good to have ALL the time).
And once again, I'm praying for your safety.
kimberley replied: omg prayers to all there.
Calimama replied: That's actually who we use (USAA). We can't take all of our vehicles we have 3 and only 2 drivers. I'm writing down the info so I can call, thank you so much!!
A&A'smommy replied: Be safe girl, let us know how you are!!! I'm going to be thinking about you guys!!!
luvmykids replied: My dad lives in San Diego, I haven't been able to get ahold of them but I don't talk to them that much in the first place so I don't know if I have cause to be worried
I hope everyone who has to evacuate is ok and able to return home soon
DVFlyer replied: Looks like the number is up to 500,000 people evacuated... and this is just from San Diego county.
I know of quite a few people who were evacuated and still can't get back into their neighborhoods to check on their homes. Luckily, we are in an unaffected area.
luvmykids replied: I talked to my dad who lives in SD, they are still ok but their house is full of people...they've had to evacuate in the past so they're hoping this year is the exception.
DVFlyer replied: Most people are being allowed back in their homes/ neighborhoods. Ramona is still locked down and the people of Ramona are getting VERY impatient. There are now news stories of people rushing past the National Guard troops to get to their homes.
I have been very proud of the people of San Diego for the amount of help they have offered and their poise through all of this.
